incident discussing Penn State today
I had just finished giving platelets today and was getting an OJ when one of the nurses came by and said "I am going to apply for that job opening." I asked if he meant Penn State and he said "No----." We chuckled and I sat down to drink the orange juice.
Another donor was sitting there. He piped up that the Penn State deal really bothered him. His family had roots with Penn State - his dad had graduated from there, his uncle was on the track team and he himself spent a couple years there. He didn't think it quite fair that Paterno did what he was supposed to do, but lost his job.

I told him I looked at it from a quite different perspective. I was molested by a priest at age 12. Back in the early '60s no one believed what I said even though I tried with my parents. Believe me I told him there were wounds opened that never healed with my parents who I believed in until then.
He looked stunned said "I think I understand now." and left.

2. Good for you. Paterno may have done many wonderful things over the course of his
life, but that does not excuse the terrible thing he did in protecting Sandusky. Thanks for helping one more person "get it." :applause:

4. The victims are the teachers today

I am among the victims. I never pass up an opportunity like this to teach those who've never experienced it or to help those who have been victims.

5. How did Paterno do what he was supposed to do?
He was supposed to report it to the police. He was supposed to make sure Sandusky was never left alone with a child ever again under the auspices of Penn State.

What he did instead was COVER IT UP and LET SANDUSKY CONTINUE TO RAPE CHILDREN.

8. Some will claim that Patrerno did what he was supposed to do ...
Which might be true in some other situations ... in some schools, the coach has very little authority and power, and so advising their superiors might be all they could realistically do.

And while that is a stretch ... it does nothing for Paterno. JoePA was a GOD at PSU ... he really had no superiors. And so if JoePA called for a full police investigation, it would have happened immediately.

JoePA knew the extent of his power, but he did not use it when it was most needed.

Being treated like a GOD is one thing ... acting like one when it really counts is another. JoePA did not step up when it was needed.
