Not all Veterans are treated the same... |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-11-11 11:40 PM by matmar
I served in the US Navy from 1981 to 1986. That makes me a veteran yet I can't get health care from the VA because I didn't serve during a time of war.
I'm a veteran but I don't qualify for veterans preference points on federal exams for jobs because I served during a time of peace.
I'm a veteran but I don't qualify for a reduction in my local property tax because I served during a time of peace.
Not that I'm complaining. I just want to inform fellow DUers that not all Veterans are entitled to benefits set aside for Veterans.

1. Serving in a time of war by itself doesn't qualify you for VA care. |

I read in a book (They're Poisoning Us by Arnold Mann) that the VA was set up to separate the cost of war from the defense department. They deid not want the cost for the sick and injured to be dseducted from the DOD budget. This was noted by past Sentor Riegle in the book.

7. There is also an online application site for VA health care. It is possible |
|
for many to qualify who were not aware they qualified - because they didn't look in to it.
That is NOT the fault of the VA.

6. IIRC, vets who meet the means test are eligible |
|
Combat, non-combat, doesn't matter. Even vets with no service connection can be seen, but they'll pay $50 for an appointment--and if they have 3 appointments in one day, it's still $50.
