Will someone please say that Wall Street was involved in some sort of sexual activity so we can prosecute them?

Not my joke, heard it before, but it's just SOOO true.

2. Yes, but they never called after that.
Evidently it has to be very literal for anyone to know a crime has occurred.

9. There were no legal charges, only political charges
Clinton was only charged by the REPUBLICAN controlled House of Representatives which is a political process, not a criminal process.

Obama could be charged with bestiality tomorrow in the House. All it takes is a simple majority vote.

The myth that Clinton was ever charged with anything needs to die.

11. It appears that there were articles of impeachment brought by the House, and they
were voted on by the Senate. Isn't that like 'being charged'? He was acquitted, and as we know, finished the term.

http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstates/impeachments/clinton.htm

“On Friday, February 12, television cameras were once again turned on inside the chamber and senators gathered in open session for the final roll call. With the whole world watching, senators stood up one by one to vote "guilty" or "not guilty." On Article 1, the charge of perjury, 55 senators, including 10 Republicans and all 45 Democrats voted not guilty. On Article 3, obstruction of justice, the Senate split evenly, 50 for and 50 against the President.

With the necessary two-thirds majority not having been achieved, the President was thus acquitted on both charges and would serve out the remainder of his term of office lasting through January 20, 2001.” < More at link>

20. It's a purely political process
Some of the names used are the same as a criminal proceeding, but that's where the similarities end. Ken Starr spent hundreds of millions trying for years to get Clinton and never had enough for an indictment, even though Ken Starr was a political hack. In the process he granted immunity to real criminals. When the GOPhers realized they would never be able to so much as indict Clinton, much less prosecute him, they subverted the political process for partisan gain. The people at the time weren't stupid enough to buy it. Clinton had higher approval ratings WHILE the impeachment proceedings were going on than Raygun ever had in his entire 8 year term.

Clinton was impeached over a blowjob. All the excuses they gave were nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Meanwhile the man who spearheaded the whole abuse of power scheme, Gingrich, was meeting with his own mistress and getting his own extramarital blowjobs on the same days he was standing up in the House and demonizing Clinton for it.

22. THe House impeached, the Senate tried, acquitted. He was charged. You stated he
was not. Here is where you said it "...The myth that Clinton was ever charged with anything needs to die...."

It was/is not a myth. Legal/political/farcical pick one. There were charges by the House, there was the trial by the Senate. It happened. Thor, Zeus, and Hercules are myths. The Clinton impeachment really happened. It is in the history books.

27. Regarding Monica Lewinsky and Others
In the Independent Counsel’s judgment, there was sufficient evidence to prosecute President Clinton for violating federal criminal laws within this Office’s
jurisdiction. Nonetheless, in light of: (1) President Clinton’s admission of providing false testimony that was knowingly misleading, evasive, and prejudicial to
the administration of justice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas; (2) his acknowledgement that his conduct violated the
Rules of Professional Conduct of the Arkansas Supreme Court; (3) the five-year suspension of his license to practice law and $25,000 fine imposed on him by the
Circuit Court of Pulaski County, Arkansas; (4) the civil contempt penalty of more than $90,000 imposed on President Clinton by the federal court for violating its
orders; (5) the payment of more than $850,000 in settlement to Paula Jones; (6) the express finding by the federal court that President Clinton had engaged in contemptuous conduct; and (7) the substantial public condemnation of President Clinton arising from his impeachment, the Independent Counsel concluded,

The prosecutor’s “interest . . . in a criminal prosecution is not that shall win a case, but that justice shall be done.”6President Clinton’s public acknowledgment of wrongdoing served the interests of justice, and the public interest, by finally and conclusively resolving a matter of national concern—one that diverted the country’s attention for more than two years. President Clinton’s sanctions in other venues reaffirmed the principle that high ranking government officials are not above the law. For these reasons, the Independent Counsel concluded that it would be “in the best interests of law enforcement and the country” for criminal prosecution of President Clinton to be declined.7

Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 08:59 AM by Motown_Johnny
while betting they would fail?

No, no they didn't

The REPUBLICANS in two of those buildings repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, which then provided the motivation for financial institutions to commit this form of fraud, but nobody in those buildings actually crashed the economy.

Your philosophy on this issue is fatally flawed, are you sure you want to be king of that?

15. Who began the trend of lowering the standards for mortgage lending?
Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 01:34 PM by Philosopher King
With a mandate from Congress to increase home ownership, lenders, including Fannie and Freddie made fewer and fewer conventional, fixed-interest loans with 20% down. And as you mentioned, Congress essentially repealed Glass-Steagal when they enacted the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act. However, Republicans had plenty of help from Democrats, including President Clinton, who signed the bill into law. These actions took place in one of those buildings, but additional pages in this chronicle of corruption, were written in others...

Final Congressional vote on the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act

21. You do know that the banks actually did break laws while collapsing the economy don't you?
It seems that you think the government(s) purposefully collapsed the economy, if so you should seek professional help.

Maybe you are just misinformed, here are a couple clips from Rachel Maddow's show. They run back to back so you need only click on the first one, and wait through the commercial, and the second one will load automatically.

Enjoy.

Please note that some of this occurred even before Glass-Steagall was repealed. Also, that woman telling people to stay in their houses did that in one of those buildings you pictured. Sen. Levin (one of my Senators) was also in that building you pictured. Blaming the people in those buildings simply isn't sane.

26. Actually, institutions do not break laws--people do.
And I do not think that government officials "purposefully" wrecked the economy. On the contrary, most had good intentions, it's just that they do not have the background and/or experience to know what the hell they are doing. And I wouldn't expect them to, for most of them hold Juris Doctor degrees; thus, they know very little about business and economics.

I had actually seen those clips before, but let's be honest--MSNBC is the flip side of FOX News, and not the best source for unbiased information.

17. The problem is you're assuming the people who work in those buildings
and the people who work on Wall Street are different people. Timmy Geithner knows his way around the White House and a skyscraper, spent a good long amount of time in both.

There is no separation between government and big business. That's the problem.

The poor investor class is forced to endure the pain of continuing tax breaks. Herman Cain wants to force them to endure a tax rate of only 9%. Rick Perry wants to torture them by removing all their corporate gains taxes. Isn't that punishment enough?
