DNC: Retired General Slams Romney Plan to Privatize Veterans Care
Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 10:46 AM by bigtree
Posted by DNC Press on Friday, November 11, 2011

Lieutenant General Claudia Kennedy (US Army, Retired), the first woman to achieve the rank of three-star general in the U.S. Army and co-chair of the DNC's Veterans and Military Families Council, released the following statement in reaction to Mitt Romney's plan to privatize veterans' health care benefits:

"Mitt Romney's proposal to privatize our veterans' health care is the same, sorry song and dance that we've heard from him before. Just as he would privatize Medicare, his announcement that he would privatize veterans' health care, changing it into a voucher program, pulls the rug out from our veterans. He would cut ties with our veterans and leave them to fend for themselves on the private insurance market. But, our service members deserve better.

"President Obama has made a priority of providing for our veterans because he believes the sacrifices that our service members have made for this country are great and that our obligation to them should measure up to that sacrifice. He understands that our commitment to the men and women who serve their country doesn't end when their service is up. President Obama has made investments to better treat those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, and he's proposed a plan to deal with high unemployment among post-911 veterans, offering tax credits for unemployed veterans and for employers who hire disabled veterans.

"But, on Veterans Day of all days, Mitt Romney made clear he would neglect that commitment to our nations veterans - proving yet again that he is out of touch with ordinary Americans and that he doesn't have what it takes to be commander-in-chief."

1. Mittens may have really stepped in it with this one.
Way to go Mitt.....you've just alienated a huge group of Americans by tossing them to the Medical Insurance Sharks.
Probably one of the dumbest things you've done since..umm..let's see...strapping Seamus your dog to the top of your station wagon.
Keep it up dumbass...:D

10. Is it true?
Unfortunetly...yes.
You can google it "Seamus Romney car roof" and get the entire disgusting picture.
Here's one article from PolitiFact that rates the story "Mostly True".

16. That's what they want
Our military folks are on welfare because they don't make a lot of money, now Mittens wants to add private insurance payments on top of that.....

This is his typical plan...go in and destroy an organization and plunder it...those Americans left standing screw them..

4. Mitt Romney is going to be the nominee.
And because he wants to privatize public health services like Medicare and the Department of Veteran's Affairs, he'll get his ass kicked in the election. Or, at least, I hope that's what will happen, because Romney would make a terrible president.

5. I understand he doesn't have any personal experience.

I understand he probably doesn't have any vets on his staff.

But doesn't he even know a vet well enough to run by idiocy like this.

Another example of stupid Republican gibberish that has less than a zero chance of passing*

* Republicans can now claim of advocating policies with less than a 0% of chance of passing because simply proposing them ignites such a back lash that whatever policy is 180 degrees opposite of their suggestion raises to 70% popularity - See Ohio.

8. I hope we'll hear from Wes Clark about this, too.
I suspect he'd say much the same thing. And, I hope David Petraeus, who the GOP worships, slams this shit, too.

13. Well, the veterans can always hire high-priced attorneys and sue the insurance companies
if they renig on the delivery of their voucher benefits instead of having the guarantee of our federal government backing them. And of course Republicans will not consider these lawsuits frivolous and anti-business. Right?

14. The Republicans will try to say the Democrats want to hurt the
veterans and a lot of voters will believe them. We all know how much the Democrats want to destroy Social Security and Medicare.
