In wake of Penn State, another college reveals abuse probe
CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, another university, The Citadel military college in South Carolina, revealed on Saturday that it had investigated accusations against a camp counselor but took no action.

The man has since been jailed on separate charges of molesting five boys in Mount Pleasant, near Charleston, South Carolina.
"We regret that we did not pursue this matter further," Citadel President Lt. General John Rosa and Board of Visitors Chair Doug Snyder said in a statement.

The Citadel said it investigated four years ago accusations of inappropriate conduct with children by Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille, who was a counselor at the military school's camp.
ReVille is a graduate of The Citadel, the college said, and worked as a counselor at the school's camp for three summers between 2001 and 2003.

In 2007, a former camper at The Citadel Summer Camp informed the school that five years earlier, when he was 14, ReVille invited him and another boy into his room where the three watched pornography on ReVille's computer and masturbated, college officials said.

1. The Citadel should have been shut down in 1864.

2. How about this for a solution
Can we just start castrating anyone who molests a kid...they just can't be cured.

3. I've heard rapists say that about themselves, too. They'll keep raping, according to
Several I've heard interviewed on tv. Pedophiles can't seem to even admit that they do these despicable acts.

5. I'll bet
I'll bet without testosterone in their blood...they'll be as harmless as a priest...err...a good priest.

15. There is a prevetion option for pedofiles and other rapists called chemical castration.
Edited on Sat Nov-12-11 11:52 PM by FedUpWithIt All
Chemical castration lowers testosterone and is reversible once treatment ends.

Depo-Provera also reduces recidivism rates. When used as a mandatory condition of parole (6), chemical castration decreases the occurrence of repeat offenses from 75% (6) to 2%

4. I think what happens is that instead of raping kids,
castrated rapists, when they can't act out their sexual fantasies, start killing kids. I couldn't cite any sources other than my mother, who worked for CPS a while back. I actually think the best solution is to lock them up for good.

6. Really?
I would expect that someone without testicles would be docile and somewhat harmless.

7. Unfortunately, I can't really elaborate on
what my mom said. It may be a myth among social workers, but since she was up to her armpits in horrible crime cases all her life (she worked with children and then the elderly) she is probably basing that at least on anecdotal evidence. I think the idea is that the desire for power and control that rape and molestation do for the pedophile, if it can't be satisfied sexually, comes out as sexual frustration, which then comes out as other forms of physical abuse and murder.

Again, though, I'm not an expert in the slightest.

8. It may be a brain defect that causes them to do this. Cutting off
their testicles or even lowering testosterone won't change the impulse their mind creates or the urges that build up and rule them.

9. I think it's worth trying
I wouldn't consider it cruel to give someone the option of life in prison or life w/o the wedding tackle.

I'm also not talking about hack em and open the jailhouse gate...you would have to give them some form of therapy I guess. I'm pretty certain that although they don't consider rape and molestation a sexual crime...if you remove the testosterone, you remove the sex drive and remove the drive that they have to offend.

Testosterone controls so much more than you would believe...without it you would be physically capable of having sex...but would have absolutely no desire.

It does take desire...which wouldn't be there w/o testosterone.

16. Welcome to DU..
I hope you enjoy your stay..

Taking away sexual desire still leaves the desire for power which is where rape behavior comes from.

22. Actually
Desire for power is also greatly affected by testosterone. You'll find that even in a non-sexual sense...men who are generally more agressive and outgoing (alpha males) have higher levels of testosterone than quieter men.

There's a reason why they castrate bulls to make them more docile, it's the same effect.

17. Just Like PSU Football - A School with a Proud tradition - Abusive Bastards
All these abusive people fall back on some "Proud Tradition" of their schools or sports programs that allegedly helps underprivileged kids.

Well, that's just grand that one in a thousand kids might actually make it to the big leagues. The other 999 suffer the abuse you visit on them. They fear you and the power you have over them so they do whatever you want.

Go fuck yourself. You're not helping anyone.

18. I think you have your numbers mixed up...
It is the 1 in a 1000 who is traumatized and the 999 of 1000 who benefit from the system.

Also, the summer camp is not indicative in any way of daily life at the Citadel.

20. The daily life at the Citadel is probably worse.
If you think PSU has a culture of control and coverup, it can't hold a candle to the Citadel. Nothing that happens there would surprise me. There are very powerful people throughout SC who would support them no matter what they did.
