Okay, Buckle Up: Dickerson inadvertently CC’d Bachmann’s communications director

Josh Marshall

The Bachmann campaign has just sent out a press blast that will surely get everybody in an uproar. CBS’s just hired political director, John Dickerson, wrote an email — apparently to CBS colleagues — noting that Bachmann probably wouldn’t get many questions tonight since she’s basically tanked in the polls. That’s not terribly surprising. Except Dickerson inadvertently CC’d Bachmann’s communications director. Big mistake. The Bachmann campaign has now released the email to the press. More shortly.

Late Update: Bachmann Headline: CBS guy just focusing on our flat-lining in the polls.

Latter Update: For some context, the TPM Poll Average puts Bachmann currently at 3.2% support nationwide among Republicans. So she's creeping up on Gary Johnson territory. And well into Santorum-ville.

Updated: SCGOP Torpedoes the SS Bachmann

SC GOP Executive Director Matt Moore just told our Evan McMorris-Santoro: “The SCGOP had no input on how questions were developed or to whom they were addressed. Congresswoman Bachmann seemed to receive a fair number questions, and had ample opportunities to answer.”

And the SCGOP was the official debate cosponsor.

Michele Bachmann: I Have Proof CBS Conspired To Marginalize Me In Debate

(snip)
Stewart said Bachmann got “the least questions and no followups,” which won’t be verifiable until an analysis of debate time can be done. But with the most objectively pro-Republican of the three sponsors of the debate — the event was co-hosted by CBS News, National Journal and the SC GOP — coming down on the side of the moderators already, it will probably be hard for Bachmann to make her case that there was bias against her.

5. That is the problem when you try to play We Are Family and cram 8-10 candidates up on the stage
This drove me crazy in 2004 and 2008. We had to go through the motions as insignificant candidates like Sharpton, Dodd, Biden, Mosely-Braun and Gravel drained precious time away from the major league heavyweight candidates.

7. Bah!
It's not as though that campaign thought they had any traction anyways, right? ...right?

It was probably read in between emails from his wife back home asking 'how long they planned to be away wasting time on a campaign that's been dead in the water for months now anyways...' in a hotel bar...

9. Isn't that how they do it, though? This is a shock?
Usually, the front runners in these primary debates get the most questions, that happens no matter which party's victims candidates are up on the stage. The people in the back of the pack barely get a chance to speak. It doesn't matter who the sponsor is, that's just how these things work.

People want to hear from the Big Cheeses; the also-rans are just there to provide a bit of fun or the occasional bon mot.

And yup, I like John Dickerson too.
