Man, these talking heads are afraid and confused. As always, they're treating protesters and anarchists as the same thing, saying protesters should abide by "legal event" procedures. You're just not going to say on-air that the world is FUCKED and that we have to do something, and this is it!

These private security and business-owner oriented jerks are asking citizens to phone police if they see any groups assembling.

They have champagne and have counted down the curfew deadline like it's new year's eve

Naughty, someone used a laser pointer on the helicopter. I understand the sentiment, but...

44. They don't have to. The Media always leave as soon as
the police announce they are moving in. They did it in Oakland, stopped coverage and just left, and the same thing a few nights ago at Berkeley. They don't work for us, they coordinate with the police and make sure they do not photograph them committing crimes.

That is why the citizen journalism is so important, the media is complicit. It is so well known now, that they will leave before the 'crackdown', that as soon as people see them leaving, they know the 'fun' is about to start.

Apparently, the police weren't consulted about the 12:01 deadline and so they're not going to treat it as firm.

Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 03:34 AM by Fire Walk With Me
Protester:

"Its' peaceful, the only people with weapons are the police."

"It's letting the mayor know people are concerned for the welfare of their country...greed, corruption...we're all here to support the #Occupy movement."

"I was a Marine, saw a lot of corruption, didn't have an outlet, heard about #Occupy online from Anonymous...the message is pretty clear and concise, First Amendment rights...the message is that we all know something is wrong and that we all have to have a discussion about it."

"It felt we were turning more into a social service camp for the homeless than an attempt to redress grievances...we felt it was important to have all these people here so the city could see all the problems, extremely important for them to see that."

"I'm happy with the people we were able to help."

"I'm an #Occupier, I'm here to the end. If that's what it takes, then yes, I'll get arrested. This first month was sort of a boot camp for us (to learn how better to help the street kids, etc.)."

"This country has a lot of greivances, we must have that discussion."

30. OK Wall Street numbercrunchers.
There are about 600,000 residents of Portland.

And there are about 6,000 people on the streets. That is one person there in support of OP for every 100 residents.

That is the 99% considering a lot of people are too old, too young, or too sick or disabled to come out.

Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 03:43 AM by Fire Walk With Me
Hahaha, they're waiting for people to go home... "At some point, they'll go home."

"We've worked hard to keep people safe, to keep this peaceful" (this is a cop being interviewed, mentions they want to keep the free speech going but worry about obstruction to local business). Admits that #Occupy has been peaceful, is hopeful it will have a positive conclusion (AHAHA) that they'll move out of the park and go to another location.

"The mayor and chief have said the park is closed...I believe that shortly more and more people are going to be leaving." Lt. King

Protesters are saying to the police, "We've called your bluff."

Talking heads and police think most of the people there are just looky-loos. Police representative saying that they'll move in when the numbers decline.

56. They should have a mic check and ask everyone to stay. That's
what they did at Berkeley the other night. The police had announced they were going to start arresting people, they declared the protest 'illegal', the media began packing up and leaving, then a protester did a mic check, 'Please do not leave, everyone stay'. That echoed through the crowd and no one left.

Finally, the Oakland Police got in their vans and began to leave. They never did arrest anyone, and the Occupiers held a GA during which they announced the General Strike which is to take place next week, I believe.

This group should ask the people not to leave. Wish there was a way to tell them.

Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 03:56 AM by Fire Walk With Me
and that it's good that #Occupy will bring greater attention to the problem, a disgraceful number of homeless Vets...we believe everyone has a right to a safe and reasonable place to call home, but the economy is the problem...JOIN members today got some homeless into hotels on vouchers, but there is no federal funding, hoping #Occupy will bring Federal level discussion and help to the homeless..The Gospel rescue mission is at capacity...1700 in cars and ??? 1000? in shelters each night in Portland!

There's no place for the homeless mentally ill, the cost to address it is staggering...(Discussion about a broken mental health system and how it costs and that it's inefficient). (The conversation has begun!)

(Right here on live TV, not national, but on live TV, they're having the conversation about getting Federal funding for these problems, to help at the city level to care for people...this is what #Occupy has done so far!)

And in Santa Rosa yesterday, a City Councilman praised the occupiers for taking care of the homeless and also acknowledged what a huge problem it is. He said something like 'it is beautiful to see how you care for the homeless and the mentally ill'.

I think they are shaming elected officials into realizing what their jobs should be all about.

Warning about upcoming use of chemical agents...the cop was in the wake of the horses, so cops may have run over their own...this guy is in complete riot gear, how would a "projectile" put him to the ground needing assistance to stand/walk?

They're saying the officer was hit in the leg...in a very tight crowd, somehow. I say he was hit by a horse until more is known.

70. I saw in the chat stream on the feed that earlier KGW was saying that it was just a big party
Do they seriously not know how angry people are and how much people believe in our cause?

71. KGW has been really poor reporting compared to Denver's reporting.
And Denver was reporting poorly, too, with their stupid ass commentary, but at least they recognized a popular movement. KGW is unwatchable (though I appreciate the reports on what they're saying).

74. Are the protesters in the street?
If so, do they plan to move when traffic picks up in 3-4 hours? If not, and they refuse to disperse, they should be dealt with by police. They have no right to slow down traffic. The folks in Zuccotti Park aren't doing that.
