"After Penn State, another college reveals abuse probe" (The Citadel)
Edited on Sun Nov-13-11 07:44 AM by WinkyDink
CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - In the wake of the Penn State child sex abuse scandal, The Citadel military college in South Carolina, revealed on Saturday that it had investigated accusations against a camp counselor but took no action.

The man has since been jailed on separate charges of molesting five boys in Mount Pleasant, near Charleston, South Carolina.

"We regret that we did not pursue this matter further," Citadel President Lt. General John Rosa and Board of Visitors Chair Doug Snyder said in a statement.

The Citadel said it investigated four years ago accusations of inappropriate conduct with children by Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille, who was a counselor at the military school's camp.

So, it happens with schools that are NOT Big-Time-Athletics Universities.

ETA: I thought I checked the board for duplicating a thread. Mea culpa.

2. The Citadel is second to none
when it comes to cover up. It is supported by some very powerful people in SC and elsewhere. Nothing they did would surprise me.

Pat Conroy was a cadet, and he used The Citadel as a model for a college in his novels. The alums and others practically put out a fatwa on him. He is persona non grata.

I shudder to think what has really gone and is going on there.

5. There is still bad blood.

There are still a lot of people who will never forgive him. That was a PR move because they realized he might be a better ally when writing his stories.

It took them 20 years to forgive Mark Buonicotti after he was paralyzed in a football game and sued them.

They have tried to paint a better facade, but I have friends and relatives who have had dealings with them. They aren't any better. They just have a better PR arm.

BTW that molester is under more than a million dollar bail as opposed to $100,000 at PSU.

4. The military prides itself on sexually abusing subordinate women...
...then blaming the women instead of the men who preyed on them using their superior rank as leverage. This does not surprise me.
