Meanwhile in world cricket-a known pervert jumps to his death
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/sex-assault-claims-emerge-in-peter-roebuck-death-inquest/story-e6frexni-1226194021508
<snip>
SOUTH African police have launched an inquest into the death of cricket commentator Peter Roebuck after the esteemed journalist plunged six storeys to his death from a Cape Town hotel room.

Police captain Frederick Van Wyk confirmed last night that Roebuck, 55, died at about 9.15pm on Saturday. The matter was being treated as suicide.

It is understood Roebuck had earlier been spoken to by Cape Town police, who were investigating claims of sexual assault.

In 2001, the former Somerset cricket captain was given a suspended jail sentence after he admitted caning three young cricketers he had offered to coach.

1. This is what TPTB at Penn State are devoutly wishing for..
Why else would Sandusky have been released without having to put up a penny?

2. What a shame...
that Roebuck wasn't compelled to implicate others before doing the world a favor by removing himself from it. As much as I desire to see pedophiles removed from society, I want those with 'connections' through their association with youth sports to name names that reach clear to the top. Pedophile rings don't exist in a vacuum; there must be powerful benefactors who provide protection and give cover in order for them to operate as long as they do without repercussion - and that's true whether it's the Catholic Church, the Bush I White House, or Pennsylvania State University, or big-time cricket in South Africa.

4. Roebuck was English but ran to Australia after
he was found guilty a decade ago. He was in South Africa covering the series against Australia for the Sydney Morning Herald & ABC Oz.

Cricket writer and broadcaster Peter Roebuck committed suicide at a hotel in South Africa soon after reportedly being questioned by police. He was 55.

The former player turned journalist is believed to have jumped to his death from the sixth floor of his hotel in Cape Town, where he was covering the South Africa-Australia test series.

A report by the Sydney Morning Herald, one of the newspapers Roebuck wrote for, said he had been questioned at his hotel at about 9 p.m. on Saturday night by a uniformed police officer and a detective over an alleged sexual assault.

The newspaper said Roebuck was in an “agitated” state and suggested one of the police officers was still in his room when Roebuck jumped to his death.

9. Defenestration
I feel sorry for Roebuck, he must have been a sick man.

If he injured children, they deserve more than sympathy. They require more than medical and psychological attention. They deserve unconditional love -- that which all kids are entitled.

PS: Thanks for the heads-up on this guy, malaise. The reality is there are many, many seemingly normal people who prey on children. It is way past time they get the attention and prosecution they deserve.

PPS: This goes back, IMFO, to when the CIA forgave the NAZI war criminals in exchange for their support in the fight against the one thing worse (in the eyes of the leadership, anyway) than child predators -- Communism.

12. PETER ROEBUCK: Did the ABC and Fairfax turn a blind eye to their own criminal sexual predator?
http://www.vexnews.com/2011/11/peter-roebuck-did-the-abc-and-fairfax-turn-a-blind-eye-to-their-own-criminal-sexual-predator/
Snip>

Many have lavished the high-profile, quirky and controversial cricket writer Peter Roebuck with praise for his writing after his sudden death that has now been confirmed as suicide and appears to have been prompted by South African Police inquiries of him that left him in an “agitated state.”

We’d have thought the praise might have been best given in context given his form as a convicted criminal abuser of teenage lads in his care and the widespread gossip in media circles that Peter Roebuck was an exploitative sexual predator who used his money and clout to have his way with the poorest and most desperate of kids who wanted a way out of poverty and a chance to play cricket at an elite level that Roebuck was tempting them with.

We’re not certain that pedophile is the right word for him technically, as we are only aware of him preying on kids above the age of consent, but his behaviour certainly sounds creepy, exploitative and disturbing and it seems that his employers at Fairfax and the ABC knew his form and knew that it continued until the present day.

The issue for Fairfax and the ABC is what did they know and when did they know it? Did they enable or facilitate his wrongdoing by keeping him in a prestigious position of power, knowing that he was abusing it to sexually exploit young people?

13. Arthur C. Clarke
One of my all-time favorite human beings, until I discovered his penchant for access to the poorest of the poor. I can't find the interview, but he was quoted extensively about living in then-Ceylon did because it gave him access to young boys and no questions about it from the authorities.

The mysterious Sri Lankan world of Arthur C. Clarke

Thanks for the heads-up on Fairfax and ABC Ozzie. There's a certain global CEO class that think they operate under a different set of rules and are entitled to lord over the masses. Hate bringing this up, as the subject is so grotesque and evil, but whatever it is that makes people think evil is acceptable must be faced and destroyed.

10. It may or may have not been paedophilia
His victims in 1999 were all 19; technically not sexual, but I think I agree with the judge he did it for his own enjoyment, and so effectively it was a sexual perversion. We don't know the age of the victim in the new sexual assault allegations.

11. Roebuck plunges to death from hotel window after police questioning
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/roebuck-plunges-to-death-from-hotel-window-after-police-questioning-20111113-1ndvq.html#ixzz1dbP5JnPU
<snip>
PETER ROEBUCK, regarded by many as the finest cricket writer of his generation, fell to his death from a hotel window in Cape Town on Saturday night after being questioned by police about an alleged sexual assault.

A Cape Town detective and a uniformed police officer from the sexual crimes unit began speaking with Roebuck, 55, in his room at the Southern Sun Hotel, Newlands, about 9pm.

Roebuck, who was agitated, asked a fellow cricket journalist for help. ''Can you come down to my room quickly? I've got a problem,'' he said. He asked for help to find a lawyer and for contact to be made with the students he helped to house in Pietermaritzburg, near Durban.

Minutes later Roebuck fell to his death from a window. It is believed only the uniformed officer was in the room. Paramedics rushed to the hotel but Roebuck was pronounced dead. Police established a crime scene and took personal items from the room, including a laptop.
