7. I think of an old friend's father ... a Jewish man who ran a corner ... |
|
Pharmacy / Convenience store in Philly.
He was a Pharmacist, and so he filled prescriptions, but his store also had lots of daily need stuff ... Milk, soda, candy (for the kids).
Imagine a tiny 7-11 (before those were every where), with a Pharmacy.
He was always saying "Meh, so what's the big deal" anytime a problem came up ...
I'd never heard that term before, and really have not heard it often since.
When I see it on DU, I think of him ... he was a very nice man, who rarely got upset about much.

12. I remember those as a kid. |

There were several in my little town. When I think back about them now I remember the decor. The soda fountain, tiles, counters, one had some nice carved wood - so cool. Thanks Joe, for the trip back... :)

16. In Philly, I lived in a row home ... nicer than Rocky's, but a row home |
|
none the less. The streets are generally laid out in grids.
And the "corner houses" were often a store in front, and a home beyond.
My friend's home was through a door in the back of the Store / Pharmacy. Their basement was divided into inventory, and personal stuff.
Some of the other corner stores were "bars" and had the same basic layout. Bar in front, home in the back and upstairs.
One friend's family had a "water-ice" store.
At one time, our "strip-mall" (we never called it that) was a set of about 8 row homes, all with no lawn, such that their front door and windows were right on the sidewalk. Different families owned each, living beyond and above the store's front.
Meh, those are all long gone.
(it is fun to remember that stuff)
:-)

I suppose a long, drawn out "meh" at that frequency could get a response...
