A simple suggestion--
A "standard" rate be set at whatever--say, $50/year. People who can afford that amount pay it. Then maybe a "benefactor" rate of $100. And, for those who can't afford the $50, an honor-system payment of whatever they can give. There would be no public indication of who paid at the Benefactor, the Standard, or the Reduced rate.

1. If you make it sliding scale, everyone will say they're currently homeless
No one likes to pay for subscriptions unless they're getting a magazine, recipe cards, something

None of it makes any sense anyway

5. I think you're far too cynical. A lot of people might look at this
as a chance for sharing, knowing that their extra contributions are making it possible for others to participate fully.

I'll go along with whatever finally shakes out, but am concerned that people could get lower-tier functionality because they are victims of the Capitalist State.

2. If they are making enough why can't it just stay the way it is. Everyone enjoys the drives
and it is a community of giving thing. People can give what they want or are able to and we can all show some love to DU or other DUers.

4. I think the monthly fee of five dollars, sixty dollars a year is an unfortunate number.
I keep thinking of those BOA debit card fees!

7. I sort of like Straight Story's idea of a community fund - link below:

Kick in extra $$ when you pay your yearly subscription to go into a fund that would distribute the money to cover other DUer's memberships. Just not sure how that distribution would be done.

It would make it easier for those of who couldn't afford to simply pay double to still add a little money to the pot for supporting others.
