Occupy Oakland gets third eviction notice

OAKLAND, Calif.—Authorities Sunday night confirmed that a man shot to death near the Occupy Oakland encampment had been staying there as authorities ratcheted up the pressure for demonstrators to leave the main site in front of City Hall.

City officials issued protesters a third eviction notice in as many days Sunday, sending out strongly worded statements that included a warning that protesters did not have the right to camp in the plaza overnight and faced immediate arrest and the removal of their belongings.

Police did not respond to requests for comment on whether officers were preparing to forcibly clear the camp of anti-Wall Street protesters and their supporters.
