A 3-day attack on #OccupyOakland?! Here's who demanded it, NEVER FORGET:
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 06:49 AM by Fire Walk With Me
In a letter addressed to Oakland’s Mayor Jean Quan on Nov. 8, two little-known entities, the Lake Merritt/Uptown District Association (LMUDA) and Downtown Oakland Association (DOA) implored Mayor Quan to “step up and provide cohesive, common sense leadership.” Cohesive leadership, according to these two organizations, means giving the Oakland Police Department a green light to eradicate the now month-old Occupy encampment. “It’s time for Frank Ogawa Plaza to be given back to the people of Oakland,” they conclude.

Who are the LMUDA and DOA? What gives them the authority to make such demands? Further, who are the “people of Oakland” referred to in their letter? If those occupying the plaza do not constitute the people of Oakland, then who are the rightful owners of this contested public space?

The privatization of public administration

As OakFoSho was so skillfully arguing, how is there money for a major operation to crush a peaceful protest but no money to educated Oakland's children, to stop the city's existing crime, to help the homeless and mentally ill, to stop foreclosures, etc.!!! He says it's estimated at $5 million which could have been spent on positive things, and that we will hold you accountable.

1. There is the big question
You said "money for a major operation to crush a peaceful protest but no money to educated Oakland's children"

That is exactly the questions that need to be asked and an answered. We always have money in this country to oppress people but never money to lift them up or give them a chance.

8. Shop in other towns/cities, buy online when you can
Hit them in the wallet where it counts.

Oh, yeah--and vote Quan's butt right out of office when she's up for re-election.

4. Don't miss their letter itself:

"The protest has been allowed to run its course. Now it’s time to focus on jobs and the economic restoration of our city. It’s time for bold leadership and forceful action, not unending social experimentation. We call upon the Oakland City Council and the Mayor of Oakland to step up and provide cohesive, common sense leadership------before it really is too late."

5. Let it be "too Late", fuckers.
I hope they go bankrupt. Thousands go hungry so a few wealthy can profit. Fuck them.

6. Cross-posting so hopefully no one will miss it:
At an estimated $800-$1000 per day per kop, a three-day operation, 700-1000 kops, add it up.

OakFoSho was lambasting them about spending that money against a peaceful demonstration that was actually helping people, versus putting that money into solving the actual problems the city faces! Such as homelessness, mental illness, crime, violence, lack of education and educational material, etc. It's just sickening, and he promises they will not be allowed to forget it!

10. There is so much wrong with that excerpt alone.
The letter is written as though from the POV of small business in Oakland... but look at the composition of the board, they're all real estate speculators. I bet not one of them even lives in Oakland.

All their companies are conveniently listed!

15. Do you mean to tell me speculators paid the city hush money to sic the cops on Occupy Oakland?
Isn't that supposed to be the crime of bribery of public officials? The banksters can't stand it when democracy gets in the way of their profiteering, so what do they do? They pay off the city under the table to use the police department as their personal hired thugs and turn them against unarmed, peaceful demonstrators whose only "crime" is exercising their Constitutionally guaranteed right to assemble, speak out, and ask the government for justice against the criminals who robbed us of our livelihoods, homes, and life savings.

I'd like to see those banksters hanged in effigy and caged in person.

21. Remember that Goldman Sachs gave the criminal organization the NYPD $4.6 million...
...although more than $3 million was used up in their fight against #Occupy in the first month alone.

23. Is Lake Merritt/Uptown the same as Lake Merritt/Uptown District Association (LMUDA)?
Slight difference, want to be certain...and when certain, to propose protests against them all at their offices.
