Allen West plays the Demi Moore card to defend waterboarding |
|
you can't argue with logic like this: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1111/68293.html#ixzz1dh2V7O8k
(...)
“As the president, you need to do those things which are necessary to make sure that the American people are kept safe,” the Republican congressman continued, adding, “and furthermore, in the movie ‘G.I. Jane,’ Demi Moore was waterboarded.”

1. Chickenhawks love to cite Hollywood when it suits their purposes (but this is fail) |
|
Being waterboarded as part of a training exercise and being waterboarded in an attempt to extract intelligence from a POW cannot be compared. Those who are being waterboarded in a training exercise have the knowledge of when it's over, it's over. A waterboarded prisoner will tell you whatever you want to hear, whether it's troop strength or the identity of the person who put the overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder. Waterboarding is unreliable in practice and counterproductive to national security.

If he's going to base his judgments of reality on movies, let's make sure he uses some good ones.

does a scene in a movie where she is waterboarded, and this is comparable to actual waterboarding used on POW's in detainment camps? And this is the best rationale Allen West can come up with, boy he's got some argument there! What a fool, may-be someone should waterboard him just to shut him up!

"Man, that St. Elmo's Fire was a great movie! We love that movie in Texas, even though nobody gets executed. Kidding! I'm kidding! Sort of. Anyway, you can't go wrong when a movie delivers three pretty Brat Pack gals: Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy, and...and...heck, who's the third......oops!"
