Ohio dad charged in wipe lodged in baby's throat

DU parents - is there anyway a baby wipe could get in a baby's mouth without someone putting it there?

Ohio dad charged in wipe lodged in baby's throat

Authorities say an Ohio father was charged with child endangering when a diaper wipe was found lodged in his infant son's throat.

Twenty-five-year-old Joshua Rains of Cleveland pleaded not guilty after his arrest last week. Police say the infant needed to be placed on life-support, but he has been updated to good condition at MetroHealth Medical Center.

Rains was charged with felony child endangering and was released on bond after pleading not guilty. Another court hearing is scheduled Nov. 22.

The father told police that he cleaned the baby's mouth and then the wipe disappeared. He says his attempt to dislodge the wipe but only jammed it further in the infant's throat.

1. Kids put shit in their mouth all the time.

I could see that being a very unfortunate accident. I could ALSO see an angry person ramming a wipie down a baby's throat. Without further facts I have no freakin' clue.

2. not a clue how old the baby. yes, i can see it. but the parent would have to have eyes off kid
for a bet. and since the cops arrested, i am gonna guess that there was something to think forced on baby. but i can see it. and what they think are yum, is odd.

3. About a million different ways.
Especially with a first time, young parent.

Wipe could have been left close enough to grab.
Wipe could have been grabbed while on changing table
Wipe may have accidently ended up stuck to diaper, and then laid in the crib.

It goes on and on. I'll be interested to hear if this is overzealous cops, or abusive father.

4. Oh, Hell Yes! They are QUICK & while you're busy
putting on a sock, or diaper, or, or, or---babies develop new skills everyday..this by no means sounds intentional. Dad might need First Aid classes but Not arrest/court/incrimination-based upon available info, at least.

6. They baby is 2-months old. It is possible, but it's not as common at that age
Which I'm going to guess is why the police are concerned. Well, that and the fact that they have a witness at the scene who says the baby "was injured when it was five days and when it was treated for a detached eye lens, but never reported to police."

At two months old babies are just learning how to grasp objects, however they're also learning how to stick things in their mouth. So, it's possible they little guy excelled at both his new skills and thus the baby wipe in his throat.

You also have to consider how poor a babies eyesight is at that age and the fact that they've not yet swallowed solids. I'm inclined to think the police may be correct to err on the side of caution in this case.
