Actress Piper Laurie sure does 'tell all' about Reagan in her new memoir
She was just 18 at the time and a virgin - and he was her first love.

Reagan was 39 and was actually playing her father in the 1950 drama ‘Louisa’, which is how they got to know each other.

In 'Learning to Live Out Loud' she writes that to begin with Reagan was the perfect gentleman and asked her mother for permission to take her out on a date.

But instead of doing so he took her to his home where he made hamburgers for them both.
Things went downhill from there and when they moved into the bedroom where Reagan turned into a 'show-off' who had sex 'without grace'.
Laurie, 79, writes: 'He made sure I was aware of the length of time he had been "ardent". It was 40 minutes.'

Laurie adds that when she complained she was not satisfied, she got rather short shrift indeed.

Reagan told her: 'There’s something wrong with you. You should have had many orgasms by now - after all this time. You’ve got to see a doctor.'

On top of that, the man who went on to become Leader of the Free World also disclosed the amount he had paid for the condom, in a crass attempt to prove his point.

2. FUCK!!!
Errrr.....I guess that's what they did. Ewww. That poor foolish young lady--what a nightmare. Talk about having one's dreams dashed!

Tangentially, I will say that now I KNOW I need new glasses.

I saw that eighteen as TEN, and was initially APPALLED.

He's still a cradle robber. And apparently he doesn't know his way around the lower deck, as it were. Poor sailor, he!

Nancy's likely not too happy about this. Of course, she was no Mother Theresa herself and he was a rather crass free agent at the time.

She dumped him, not the other way around.

She kept her counsel, though, even when he became governor and president. She got great at saying "No comment." Eventually the media stopped asking.

60. Not so sure about this.
He was an ardent left winger for years. It was Nancy and her rich father who turned him.

And this is not to defend him--the second worst President in history--or in many ways, maybe the very worst, but relations between men and women were really different pre-1965. Men were completely entitled, Lords of the Universe and the masses did not question this. Women who were not sexually subsurvient were considered neurotic. His behavior would not have stood out at the time, in Hollywood or even in artistic, circles.

61. I read he changed during the McCarthy witchhunts of the film industry.
He was head of the actors' union at the time. And that began his flip from left to right.

The rest came (or so I read) when he got cosy with GE as a host of a TV show GE sponsored.

He did public speaking for them, and that led to the TV show.

Talk about being seduced. He flipped like a burger on the grill!

73. She was tired of his LEFT WING political shit. She just didn't want a wonky husband.
He was very involved in SAG, and unions, and all that stuff. She wanted a glamorous husband of her stature, not a noodge who would buttonhole people at parties and talk Screen Actor's Guild issues.

It wasn't so much offense as to his BRAND of politics, it was just that she didn't want him "harshing the mellow" with his political talk.

It's not that his behavior was unusual, either--but it was boorish to an unschooled young girl, and that's notable even back then. The fellahs whose names live on, like, for example, Valentino (after all these years), and more currently, the now-settled Warren Beatty, apparently knew their way around the southern hemisphere, so to speak, and have reputations as a consequence. Clearly, this guy was all wood and no technique.

I despise Reagan, but the part about an 18 year old virgin commenting that she wasn't "satisfied" after her first encounter doesn't sound believable. As a virgin, I doubt she knew what constituted good or bad sex.

At the time he was a Democrat and never a Chickenhawk! But, then maybe you consider a person a chickenhawk aperson who was 4f and fought to serve his country anyway he could who joined the reserves in 1937 before it became fashionable.

But it is always easier to belittle a persons entire history instead of condemning the portion that stunk.

30. JFC! give us a break. for one thing, he lied his ass off about his 'military' service.
ask Gary Wills, who wrote about how he made up the famous BS story about filming the death camps

here's his entire military service, encapsulated at the following link.

he never left the US, actually never left where he lived during the years he was part of the reserves:

http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=reagan++military+service&d=4764261545215261&mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&w=2a3b5ebf,b00c5057

MILITARY SERVICE OF RONALD REAGAN

Ronald Wilson Reagan enrolled in a series of home-study Army Extension Courses on 18 March 1935. After completing 14 of the courses, he enlisted in the Army Enlisted Reserve on 29 April 1937, as a Private assigned to Troop B, 322nd Cavalry at Des Moines, Iowa. He was appointed Second Lieutenant in the Officers Reserve Corps of the Cavalry on 25 May 1937. On June 18 of that year Reagan, who had just moved to Los Angeles to begin his film career, accepted his Officer’s Commission and was assigned to the 323rd Cavalry.

Lieutenant Reagan was ordered to active duty on 19 April 1942. Due to eyesight difficulties, he was classified for limited service only, which excluded him from serving overseas. His first assignment was at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation at Fort Mason, California, as liaison officer of the Port and Transportation Office. Upon the request of the Army Air Forces (AAF), he applied for a transfer from the Cavalry to the AAF on 15 May 1942; the transfer was approved on 9 June 1942. He was assigned to AAF Public Relations and subsequently to the 1st Motion Picture Unit in Culver City, California. Reagan was promoted to First Lieutenant on 14 January 1943 and was sent to the Provisional Task Force Show Unit of This Is The Army at Burbank, California. Following this duty, he returned to the 1st Motion Picture Unit, and on 22 July 1943 was promoted to Captain.

he didn't do ANYthing besides turn out training/propaganda films, which, considering the time, had its uses in fighting the nazis, but he certainly never came CLOSE to putting himself in harm's way, as you seem to imply

He was actually 1A, and fought to get OUT of combat by making propaganda and recruiting films, and did so due to his connections with the rich. He later made up an entire fantasy about being a war hero.

Are you vainly trying to slip right-wing lies onto this forum?

Edited on Tue Nov-15-11 06:08 PM by No Elephants
McCain does not strike me as the type who would rush to the defense of people who had dissed him, unless McCain thought it would somehow get him something.

Even McCain cannot be so delusional as to believe that defending Reagan on DU would help McCain get something.

No, I think the poster is truly concerned about alleged unfairness to St. Ronnie, namely, exposing the dead so and so for what he was.

I am always bemused when I see a post like that and then check the profile to find a very infrequent poster.

Is there software that alerts folks when Reagan has been insulted?

52. I don't mean to be the Designated SOB here....
....but I seem to be uniquely qualified-- again.

Other than a little Reagan-bashing, is there some relevant reason that we are talking about some actress's memoir?

We always decry the 'mainstream media' for trying to deflect our attention away from serious issues with fluff like this (Look! Charlie Sheen said something!), but then we devote a discussion thread to it?

(I know, I know. "Hypocrite much, Doc? You're adding to the thread!")

I'm not trying to put anyone down...but if someone were to ask "why is this thread here?" I'd be unable to give a coherent answer (other than Reagan-bashing). I guess I'm just wondering aloud what Reagan's sexual prowess (or lack of it) has to do with anything.

That's all. Let the regularly scheduled mayhem resume.
