I swear, From the grave, Ada bids me to speak. Ada Shaheen Abul-Hassen, one of my best dear friends of my life. Competent, loving, clever, generous, hilarious, gorgeous was Ada !

She came from Florida, but her father would threaten her and her younger sister with a gun if they ever "dishonored" the family. At 17, he had a husband picked out for her who was also his business associate. She ran away and came back a year later and liberated her little sister.

She came out west in 1970. Her life is a book but in the end, she succumbed to drugs and alcoholism and it killed her.

My dear Ada's life is a cautionary tale for ANY civilization.

Honor the women. Let women alone, to privately decide all matters regarding their bodies.

Any time we see different, let bells and alarms and red flags happen.
We have to work together, we have to evolve.

Ada died long before the Iran hostage crisis. It may have done her soul good to read the stories of brave women who have spoken out against "honor" killings. She was great, she gave me a horse when I was sad.

In my childhood religion of Catholicism, women still can't be priests, and the Vatican covered up the crimes of the pedophiles. So, all these old time religions need serious revisions.
