This NBC
interview from nearly 25 years ago, is chilling, as a smiling Jerry Sandusky says, "I Enjoy Being Around Children".

PITTSBURGH -- In a 1987 interview with NBC News, Jerry Sandusky spoke about his Second Mile charity and his work with troubled children.
"I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them," Sandusky said during the interview.
Sandusky, who retired from Penn State in 1999, informed The Second Mile board in November 2008 that he was under investigation. The charity subsequently barred him from activities involving children, charity officials said. ..... During the interview, Sandusky told reporters "Everybody needs people to care for them. Sometimes they don't understand it. Sometimes they don't understand what you're trying to do."
Channel 11's Rick Earle showed the interview to Joan Mills, the program director at A Child's Place in Pittsburgh. The program works with children who are victims of sexual abuse.
"A lot of perpetrators, like this man, think this is a form of caring and there's nothing wrong with it," Mills said.
Mills said Sandusky shows signs of being a serial predator, and she believes he should be watched closely.
"Where is he? Can anyone tell us where he is? Everyone should be concerned for the safety of their children because this predator man has needs that must be met and children are at risk," Mills said.

Sandusky To Costas: 'I Shouldn't Have Showered With Those Kids'.....
In an exclusive telephone interview Monday night on NBC News' "Rock Center," Bob Costas asked Jerry Sandusky if he's a pedophile and Sandusky responded, "No." ..... "I am innocent of those charges," the 67-year-old Sandusky said. "... I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them, and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact."
Asked whether he was sexually attracted to underage boys, he said "Sexually attracted, no. I enjoy young people, I love to be around them, but, no, I'm not sexually attracted to young boys."
Asked if there was anything he had done wrong, Sandusky said, "I shouldn't have showered with those kids."
.....
When Sandusky retired in 1999, at just 55, he cited his desire to devote more time to The Second Mile, a charity he founded in 1977 to help at-risk kids. According to the grand jury report, however, Sandusky was a sexual predator who used the charity and his Penn State connections to prey on young boys.
Though he was not particularly close with Paterno, he remained a familiar sight around the Penn State football complex. He was given an office in the East Area Locker building, across the street from the football building, as part of his retirement package, and would take Second Mile kids around the football facilities.
.....
Now charged with
40 counts of sexually assaulting eight children over a 15-year period...
Now he's
giving interviews, but expected in court December 7 for a preliminary hearing....
Meanwhile, he is free on unsecured bail (zero money put up) granted by a judge who currently
serves as a volunteer on Sandusky's Second Mile charity.
How is that for miscarriage of justice? Whatever happened to protecting the public from a serial sexual predator?
What has happened to justice in this country?
