Re Dan Siegal resigning as Oakland mayor's legal advisor, and talk radio.
Dan Siegal resigned as the Oakland mayor’s legal advisor and on the Rachel Maddow show tonight he said, paraphrasing, that the mayor was not able to stand up to the conservatives around her so she didn't do the right thing.

Those conservatives, and the mayor, feel huge pressure from local right wing radio and the thousands of Limbaugh-loving idiots and teabaggers egged on to crack down on the “urine soaked hippies” threatening capitalism.

The local right wing talkers reach tens of thousands in every community on radio stations that are licensed to operate in the public interest but, for instance, are dedicated to global warming denial and Wall St. deregulation. Right wing radio talkers blanket their states with coordinated attacks on OWS, egging on and making excuses for police actions to clear protestors.

The bigger stations piggyback national talkers like Rush Limbaugh and depend on university and professional sports to bring them community credibility and ad money. Many would not survive if those universities were shamed into finding alternatives.

The left gives those stations and the liars they broadcast a free speech free. Until there is an organized opposition to right wing talk radio those stations will continue to lead Wall Street's opposition to any major reform.
