House repeals healthcare law, 245-189
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 06:14 PM by Joanne98
The House voted on Wednesday to repeal the sweeping healthcare law enacted last year, as Republicans made good on a central campaign pledge and laid down the first major policy marker of their new majority.

The vote was 245-189.

House GOP appeases Tea Party with health care repeal vote

Having now passed the health reform repeal vote, 245-189, full repeal dies now, and the House moves on to the protracted strangulation process of each provision, piece by piece. But at least the GOP can tell their Tea Party tormenters that they held the damned vote, and "won" it. Last year, 34 Dems voted against the Affordable Care Act, and just 13 of them are still in office. Today, 4 voted for repeal. (When the roll call is posted, I'll update with names.)

Meanwhile, a couple of Democrats very clearly focused on the real hypocrisy at work in this vote in their floor statements. Here's Rep. Joe Crowley (NY-7) with his version of "Speaker Boehner, where are the jobs?"

2. But all they did was vote. They do not have the ability to actually repeal the thing
Yet those teabagging idiots will celebrate like this was something good when in reality nothing has been accomplished other than a wasted vote.

19. Yeah, and we don't even get to mock them like we did for the million dollar reading
of the Constitution. Well, we can still mock them but I'm tired of them wasting our time. Where are the jobs, Boehner?

15. America! Fuck, yeah!
And who's that spoilsport Crowley - talking on and on about what a waste of time and money this whole thing was? When Republicans engage in futile legislative grandstanding, it's not a waste of anything! See all the fawning attention they got? Hear all the wonderful things the newsreaders will say about them "keeping their promise" to the American people? See, that's statesmanship, that's what that is. U! S! A! U! S! A!

16. Well, at least they keep their promises to those who sent them
there. Even if it doesn't mean much, it does let their supporters know 'hey, we hear you'. No waving of fingers and admonishments to their base about having 'retarded ideas' from them.

I wonder how that feels? A show of gratitude for their victory! Did we ever get a thank you like that?

18. As I recall, the House and Senate passed an Iraq withdrawal bill
knowing full well it would be vetoed by chimpy and that the veto would be sustained. Same thing with SCHIP.

BOREN VOTES TO REPEAL HEALTH CARE BILL
Wednesday, January 19, 2011
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Dan Boren issued the following statement regarding his vote on Wednesday evening to support the full repeal of the health care legislation that was approved by Congress last year:

“Like most Oklahomans, I support common-sense health care reforms such as preventing insurance companies from denying individuals with pre-existing conditions, allowing children to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26, and making it illegal to drop someone because they are sick. However, when taken as a whole, the health care legislation adds far too many taxes, mandates, and regulations that burden Oklahoma families and prevent our nation’s job creators from producing the kind of economic growth that is sorely needed. Furthermore, a clear majority of my constituents want this law repealed and replaced with a more workable solution. It is in that spirit that I supported a full repeal.”

Mike is a key leader of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of fiscally conservative Democratic House members that advocates the principles of fiscal responsibility, government accountability and national security.

...of the kind of waste the Republicans would have you believe they want to stop. Paying all the congresscritters while they jack away their days on complete garbage like this...oh, but I guess we don't mind THOSE wasted taxpayer dollars.
