I wake up every morning to Amy Goodman
and Democracy Now. This morning when she led with what happened overnight in Zuccotti Park I actually got out of bed and went to my computer so I could watch the live streaming and see the visuals, which I have never done before.

What I mostly thought was, Imagine if there had been coverage like this when the Nazis were rounding up Jews, and all the others they shipped off to the death camps.

1. I wake up every morning to my wife.
Morning pre-alarm cuddles are a good thing.

But as for Zuccotti Park, wtf was up with raiding it at 1 a.m.? I'd have been pissed. Catch them asleep? The Nazi comparison is pretty close. I honestly don't think most of the cops were in agreement with the decision, but what choice do they have if they want to keep their jobs. There's one guy (looks like Lou Ferrigno, a.k.a. "The Hulk") that seemed to be enjoying it, but I doubt many of them were enthusiastic. It's just their jobs.

2. It seemed to me as if a lot of the police
had an expression of, Hey! I'm getting overtime for this!

I do think that a lot of them don't get it that they are themselves in the 99%, because they are taught, it seems, to identify with and devote themselves to protecting and upholding the 1%.

3. I hadn't considered the overtime angle - that's REALLY quite possible.
Seriously though, they are in the 99% but they've also got a chain of command and yes it is somewhat militaristic. There are a couple of pictures of police in riot gear with one of the protesters hugging a cop (around his riot shield). THAT's called non-violent protest.
