2. Wait, I know that answer - FORTY-TWO!
They aren't winning. I seriously wish they could, but the powers at be are comfortable with the status quo and are using the police as a military unit. That's not a good sign.

We're teetering on the edge as it is, martial law will throw some serious sand in the economic gears.

16. It already has. Much of the apparatus is covert at this point, disguised as counterterrorism.
All of the billions of dollars worth of NSA server farms and DARPA-funded profiling algorithms and social network mapping tools that we, the U.S. taxpayers, have been sold under the pretense of fighting al-Qaeda, ultimately work to protect the 1% from the rest of us.

They actually convinced us, the watched, to pay for the watchers and for the implements that have been used to destroyed our constitution rights to privacy and political association. Meanwhile, the 1% stopped paying taxes, looted the Treasury, and stripped off their assets and moved everything of value offshore. Gotta hand it to them - that was quite a coup.

19. Excellent summary! Yes, it is brilliant what the 1% have done, all with the
cooperation and participation by a dumbed down populace, many of whom go out and support the 1% in the oppression of the populace, together with a bought/bribed gov. In history it will go down as one of the greatest coups ever. I think down the road in their agenda is to raze the populace/countryside and build over it with a new empire of their making. And a portion of the dumbed down populace will assist them in every way possible, knowing they are just a few paychecks short of being part of the 1% in their delusions.

5. They are winning because
they are addressing the heart of the matter in ever more creative ways, whereas the opposition is fettered by formulas

15. Actually, that's the sign that we're winning
It shows that they're threatened. It brings more people over to our side.

Have you ever read Gandhi or King, or studied nonviolent resistance at all?

27. Those with power are definitley threatened, but the media coverage makes it look like the OWS...
... protesters are radical insurgents. Either that or they make the cops look like storm troopers. Ratings rule.

As for nonviolent resistance, that right to assemble is being trampled on pretty much everywhere in the US now. Remember the shrub's "protest zone" cattle cages?

6. We know OWS is winning because....
all the PTB(powers that be)on all sides are either crushing it, criticizing it, or trying to ignore it.

They may suceed in silencing it, and it may go away.

Then, when things get worse (and most assuridly, they WILL), OWS or similar will form again.
It all depends on the timeline of how bad things get. We're almost there. Two years, three? Six months?

Who can say.

14. They are winning because a universal principle is on their side
George Washington looked like he was finished after losing New York to General Howe in 1776. With incredible ingenuity, determination and fearlessness he crossed the icy Delaware River and demolished the Hessian brigade on Christmas morning 1776. Washington proved his superiority in a battle of wits. OWS is like the open source movement that kept Bill Gates from monopolizing the cyberworld--OWS is young, flexible and determined with a profound sense of what is right and wrong. OWS is operating with the "emperor is wearing no clothes" principle: expose the emperor again and again and he becomes disempowered because his authority is built on sham

If they hadn't won Kings mountain and marched north to support Washington, we'd still be under the Crown.

13. The inertia built up by the machine through decades will be hard to stop.
In fact, many more of us will be crushed. In fact I am certain this MUST be so.
Yes, many more of us will need to be crushed before 'we' finally rise up and turn the tide.

Until such time, the PTB will move how they wish, which is doing the elite's bidding / corporate rule.

If we are sucessful, it will be by many more defeats.

18. OWS is winning: What do the PTB have and what don't they have?
They have comfort through money invested in inertia. They lack a creative approach to reality. If this were only a battle of brute force they would have an edge beyond belief, but this is a battle of wits and in such a contest creativity and flexibility will always win over inertia.

22. I agree with you. I am simply saying that TPTB will continue to
act on the best interests of whom they serve (which isn't us), and 'we' apparently haven't 'had enough'.
More pain ahead, but through pain and exposing injustice, is our way out.

17. First they ignore you, then they laugh at you
Then they FIGHT you, then you win.

The current parties are a lost cause. Of course they're moving further right. And now they're being forced to show it, and hopefully that will finally get the zombies to wake up and come join our side. OWS grows by leaps and bounds every time a park is cleared out, every time the state responds to peaceful protest with violence.

Eventually, when it's the nation against the parties, they will have to listen or be replaced.

24. OWS is winning because
the authority of PTB is fear-based: Self-worth based on self-deception. Deception that says "you are good because you have money." Money is the substance that holds them in invisible chains. Little do they know that the greatest liberating principle is that "the truth shall set you free" It's in the Bible; it was the universal center that energized Sigmund Freud, Wilhelm Reich and so many others since then for whom living without deception is of greater value than the pursuit of money. Being bold with the truth, "They got bailed out, we got sold out" and staying creative in ways of responding to brutality are winning ingredients of OWS.

That's why the MSM and our political leaders disdain OWS - it scares them that the games they play may come to an end.
