1. There's no logic to it, is there?
I think we keep picking on Cuba because it's small enough that we can get away with it.

2. Because Cuba is small, close & unforgiven for throwing out the mob.
We have a lot of displaced RW Cubans in this country who aren't about to forget being inconvenienced by Castro.

It is disgusting that we sold our country to highest bidder just for the sake of short term greed.

6. 30 years ago, the media never said "China",
it was always "RED China". It all has to do with the money Cuba isn't loaning us.

10. K&R for a good question, sure to spur fun dialogue.
I find it interesting that those (R) Cubans here want to return to the past of a colonial Cuba.

WTF is THAT about? They weren't all wealthy and involved with the Junta running the country at the time.

17. Cuba is capitalist.
Simply having government own capital does not magically make a state non-capitalist.

18. I'm describing the perception...
Cuba is experimenting with some forms of capitalism. But it would still be thought of as Communist overall. Most every economy is a mixed economy to some extent. In Cuba, it's heavily slanted towards Communism.

13. China has invited western capital to come exploit their rightless, propertyless workers.
Edited on Wed Jan-19-11 07:19 PM by kenny blankenship
We don't give a shit if they call themselves Communist still, or point missiles at us, or worship the effigy of Karl Fucking Marx, they have said "send us your orders to be filled, invest in our stock exchange" and the deal has been too good to pass up since in any case there is no chance of coercing China to do business strictly on our terms. Cuba being small doesn't have much to offer, not nearly as much as China, no matter how poor the people are there. And being small Cuba can still be bullied, unlike China. Therefore we maintain our grudge and won't forgive them until they grovel once more at our feet, and offer their daughters once more to our tourists.

23. Cuba won't allow our oligarchs to exploit their population for quick profits?
Wasn't Cuba primarily a destination for rich Western sex tourists and gamblers before the revolution? They weren't too happy when their playground got shut down.

Why let many profit from such a thing when you can be born into money and make a few profit grandly from what you inherit.

that compels to do that exploitation and not care how many people die because, hey, it's all for the good of the greater whole.

30. The China Lobby stopped being a major force by the 1970s
The Cuba Lobby is concentrated in a prize political state. Also, there's no need to play nice with Cuba, as they're not a rising world power.
