Boehner and the Cryettes perform the legislative equivalent of pissing in the wind |

I guess the Teabaggerati won't care when the HCR killing bill goes nowhere.
It's all about the symbolism.

1. Wrong. They know the value of fighting a losing battle. It's a lesson we need to learn. |
|
Yes, it's all about the symbolism. And that's damn important.

2. Symbolism does have some value... |
|
But it's usually short lived in this country, when compared against success.
It's because of Democratic success that there's a HCR LAW existing to build upon and improve upon for coming generations.
And in the end, as HCR becomes more viable, better tuned and depended upon in our society, this stunt by the House GOPers will nary be remembered.

8. "Some" value, Scorpio? That's like saying the drive train has some value, but the motor... |
|
...is the really important part of the car.
In today's media-saturated world, if you don't have a drive train, you can make a lot of noise but you're going nowhere.

12. But is the symbolism MORE important… |
|
Than the fact, in all likelihood, that they'll never override HCR? HCR which is a fact AND will still continue to remain LAW!
And what good is a symbol that's promoted by a bunch of right wing fanatics that aren't succeeding at doing anything, except for the fact fact that they're merely distracting government business by fruitlessly working against all things Democratic?
On second thought, this stunt by the GOP was a great idea, because it goes to show Mr. and Mrs. Middle America that the GOP controlled house doesn't care about getting the economy back on track and more and more people OFF of the unemployment line.
They'd rather play pointless games. Stuff like this is why the GOP freshman class of '94 fizzled out soon after their Contract on America and the impeachment of Clinton.
That's the real symbolism of this moment, the GOP still refuses to govern.

13. I'm commenting on the value of symbolism in general. I agree that this particular symbolism... |

...is backfiring spectacularly on its purveyors. Particularly because it's ALL symbolism and NO content.

until the victim gives up without drawing a drop of blood.
It will go to the Senate and die. Then they will try passing an infinite number of amendments followed by an equal number of de funding measures in the next budget. Failing that hold up the budget in order to get their way.
To the Republicans governance means doing everything you can to make sure nothing gets done. The best government is not less government to them, it's no government at all.
They're just a nativist gang like the Bowery Boys. Politics for them is just a way of steering as much money as possible into their own pockets. Tammany Hall but with an R rather than a D

6. And how much did this little show of Kabuki theater cost? |

Wasting the House's time in the middle of mass unemployment, record house foreclosures and a recession.
Oh well, it what people voted for.

9. And When This Goes Down In Flames, We Need To Hammer This Point......... |
|
..........that the House Republicans KNEW that the repeal would never pass (they don't have the votes to get it past the Senate OR override the inevitable Presidential veto), but they did it anyway. At a time when there are a million much more pressing issues, they wasted the taxpayers' time and money on something they KNEW wouldn't go anywhere. Where are all the "fiscal watchdogs" now???

Every single one of those lazy, backward GOPers should be asked that very thing.
