Inside Occupy Wall Street Raid: Eyewitnesses Describe Arrests, Beatings as Police Dismantle Camp

The Democracy Now! team rushed down to Zuccotti Park in the middle of the night to report on the police crackdown on Occupy Wall Street. We were there until the early hours of the morning, witnessing the arrests in the streets in Lower Manhattan and the dismantling of the encampment — and the hauling away protesters’ belongings. "They can’t pull wool over our eyes. They can’t put nothing in our eyes that’s going to blind what’s going on here. And the same goes for all the people who are out there," a protester told Democracy Now! after the police twice pepper-sprayed him in the face.

The one thing I was able to pick up from the grounds of Zuccotti Park was a book that had not yet been thrown into the dump truck, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World Revisited. On the back, it says, "When the novel Brave New World" — now an established classic — "first appeared, in 1932, its shocking analysis of a scientific dictatorship seemed a projection into the remote future." It goes on to say, "However, today the science of thought control has raced far beyond the totalitarian dreams of Hitler and Stalin. Numerous methods for curtailing individual freedoms have been developed, and the pressures to adopt them are increasingly powerful. Here, in one of the most important, fascinating and frightening books of his career, Aldous Huxley scrutinizes these and other threats to humanity and explains why we may find it virtually impossible to resist them. Just reading the jacket off of Brave New World Revisited by Aldous Huxley, that was strewn at Zuccotti Park, just missed by the sanitation workers dumping the property of the protesters.

Dean Koontz "Dark Rivers of the Heart" It really tells the story of our police state. And for the readers amongst us, the two lead characters will hold your attention.
It's been one of my favorites for the last decade or so.

6. Well, I'm not sure what the police justification is

There is, from many accounts, quite a lot of personal possessions just being shit-canned by the police now that they've "retaken" the Occupy space. Some of it is undoubtedly trash, but some of it most decidedly isn't, and may have been left behind by people forcibly removed from the scene. This seems to be an illegal "taking" of property, and I was just speculating whether I and a bunch of like-minded people might not use the exact same methods on someone of means who is occupying public or private space.

Isn't the Mayor of New York ensconced in a publicly-owned mansion?

7. Seems they should have gotten an eviction notice before they sent private property

to be destroyed by the Sanitation Department. I can't imagine that many laws were broken by Bloomberg in this.

Lawyer on Democracy Now today who got the injunction against Bloomberg's order was listing a few. Imagine that more will come from ACLU and hopefully Civil Rights attorneys.

Also, what about them shutting down the airspace over the area to the press helicopters. That's just bizarre.
