12. I'm a Trotskyist Sid. You know that. With us
timing is everything. Other Marxists accuse us of not seeing a socialist revolution that we like because the conditions aren't met. And I never said that the conditions are ripe here. Yet. Until then it's education, education, education and agitation, agitation, agitation. Along with organization. Trying to help folks see that this system will NOT allow itself to be reformed is part of the education and agitation.

As to Thursday, I'm going down to see what's going on with our "Day of Action" in Nashville. What about you?

31. I do believe it will happen. The question is not if
but when. Austerity will be announced around TG (how's that for irony) and we'll see how that's taken by the majority of the people.

I figure (like others do) that the shit won't REALLY hit the fan until a few months into the next administration, whether it's another Obama admin or a Republican one.

Try something with more substance - that little saying won't get you anywhere with me. Late stage capitalism...no such thing, but I am sure you think of it as a disease based on your own personal bias. Am I wrong?

Capitalism is just like any other tool...you can use it or abuse it.

32. BWHAAA! "Capitalism is just like any other tool...
you can use it or abuse it." How about this, Capitalism is the belief that the worst of people, for the worst of motives will result in the best of results. Or something like that. Not a saying from a Marxist BTW. And late stage capitalism is what this is whether you want to admit it or not.

All of this bullshit aside, I didn't ask about ANY of this stuff. I asked if you thought that the current system could be "reformed". That was the simple question.

37. So you agree, even if you don't want to. Thanks.
And your definition of capitalism shows how biased you are, so I won't waste any time with you. What is the point? You hate a form of economics, for personal reasons. Your problem and I don't care WHAT you asked...your idea of capitalism is...well...what a dullard would believe.

Reformed? Currently criminals are running things so, first, you need to get rid of them FIRST.

Good luck with that reform thing. It has worked so fucking well every time it's been tried. :sarcasm:

"Reforming" the system comes from within the system. Ergo, it logically follows that you think that the system can reform itself. And I admire your faith that that will happen.

30. No
"Capitalism, communism, socialism" .... lots of "isms" get thrown around, each has its advocates and detractors, strengths and weaknesses.

I'm an advocate of something I like to call "whatever-works-ism". We have a nation of 300 million people and we need a government and economic system that works for all of us. I think it's high time to grow up, stop flinging poo at each other based on labels and come to a consensus on something functional so our children, grandchildren and future generations can live in a civilized society where all work is rewarded and simple needs are met for the common good...where the general welfare is promoted.

42. I agree, it is also known as (economic) fascism...

and that it was brought to this level by unregulated capitalism.

If you are trying to turn the 99% movement into one that replaces capitalism with socialism then I think you might have to count on having far less than 99% support for this. There is a place for socialism (even though many may not want to call it that) but too many people enjoy the benefits of capitalism, regulated or otherwise.

44. Capitalism can't be reformed
It is what it is. It clearly undergoes cycles of highs and lows, but these cycles are brought upon purposefully, as to nullify any gains the worker class may have, so they are in a constant state of limbo. There is no ladder to climb, but the illusion of choice and freedom..the ultimate form of slavery.
