As Cities Crack Down, Lansing Distinguishes Itself By Respecting Occupy Lansing
Source: Think Progress

Across the country, mayors have cracked down on the 99 Percent, asking them to end their occupations and using heavy-handed force if they refuse.

But one city has distinguished itself in its congeniality towards demonstrators. Populist progressive mayor in Lansing, Michigan, Virg Benero, appeared at Occupy Lansing last month to lend his support, and since then, both the city and protesters have had a cordial relationship. Local news station WLNS covered this relationship in a video report. Watch it: (Video at link)

“I think that our Occupy protest has been a model for the country, in both the way they’ve conducted themselves and the relationship we’ve established with them…very cooperative collaborative relationship,” said Randy Hannan, the mayor’s executive assistant.

Sigh.... Virg should have been our governor!

A comment about Occupy Detroit losing their permit: From what I have heard, the protesters did not intend to stay over the winter. They plan to use the winter months to continue discussion and planning. Also, OD seems to have had a good relationship with the Detroit police.

3. Thanks, Bozita!
If memory serves, MLK Jr. gave a speech in the D that was a precursor to his: "I Have a Dream" speech. I am glad to see that the Detroit City Council is keeping that very same spirit alive by supporting OD.

:hi:
