DU Brits: How did you guys deal with Mary Whitehouse?

This is going back a ways, but Ms Whitehouse was a crusader against anything and everything she deemed offensive. She worked very hard to ban Monty Python's 'Life of Brian.'

Besides being a Dominionist, she was also a racist. But in the end, she FAILED. The most she could get passed, was a 'video nasties' list that banned certain horror movies. After she croaked in 2001, the nasty list was lifted.

So - how, in the US, can we make sure there never will be an American Mary Whitehouse?

There have been the contenders: the Tipper Gores, the Michelle Bachmanns, the Rush Limbaughs. But in the end, nobody likes a dick.
