2. Nobody went broke underestimating the intelligence of average people. |

Technically not a true statement, but close. Somewhere, there's going to be hundreds or thousands of idiots capable of actually buying this.

6. That's how most rush-hour highway accidents happen - distraction. |
|
They're usually minor, a broken plastic bumper frame or something, but they fuck up the commute for everyone else. Back in, oh shit, 93 or so, I was commuting with a buddy (he was driving) and there was a guy in a Saab in the 3rd lane. We were in the hammer lane. He had a newspaper spread out over the ENTIRE STEERING AND VIEWING section. There's no way he could have seen anything that wasn't in the side or rear view mirrors. He was also doing 55 in a 65 zone (which means 80mph in MA). As we passed by, he looked over at us and then went back to reading his paper. We were both blown away by that.

8. Being a sales hole doesn't mean you shouldn't drive safely. |
|
Granted, most sales holes don't have the intelligence to operate a wheelbarrow, much less a car, but that thing is almost the definition of "driver distraction".

I used to spend a lot of time in the car. I would do a lot of work in clients' parking lots, restaurant parking lots etc.

13. I spent way too much time in rental cars. I won't travel for a job anymore. Period. |
|
I didn't have WiFi when I traveled for my jobs, but I usually had a laptop. Well, at least after they became available in the late 80's. You can't exactly call an Osborne (27 lbs or so) a laptop, but I used one. The Zenith "portable" wouldn't qualify either. Still, it is disgusting that they are promoting distracted driving with that thing. It is bad enough as it is with cell phones and fucking DVD screens in the sun visors.

It could no more be used while people are driving than could cardboard sun shields that shade your front seat be used while driving. Oh hell I imagine people here have protested those too.

23. I once had to routinely commute up to Wyoming from front range of Colorado.... |
|
North of Fort Collins, the traffic thins out quite a bit and I would see EVERYTHING (literally) being done in the car while driving 80 MPH or faster... Reading the newspaper on the steering wheel, shaving (and not just ones face--LOL), naturally all the usual tech related distractions, including watching tv/dvds, as well as food, and makeup application. So, i can not say this would surprise me, except that they are undoubtedly "late to the party".... I'm sure others have already come up with something similar to keep their laptop on their steering wheel...
