Why the GOP Clown Car drives on: MONEY.
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 09:36 AM by Atman
I posted something similar in GDP, but I think it's worth a broader view.

WHY, oh why, is America being subjected to this ridiculous GOP clown car of supposed candidates, when everyone knows Romney will be the nominee? Why is it news that book-sellers like Cain and Gingrich have closets full of skeletons that make them unelectable? Why do Bachmann and Perry get one minute of airtime after proving over and over again that they have no grasp of reality? Why isn't Jon Huntsman, the only nearly-sane one in the bunch, taken seriously while Cain and Perry offer nothing but bumper stickers and blackouts?

The answer is simple: MONEY. Pure and simple.

The primary states have hotel rooms booked, banquets scheduled, parties planned. The cable nooz channels have crews on schedule, special election night programming, the art department has already generated some awesome Fox-style motion graphics. There is a whole lot of cash at stake. An industry built around these primaries. And that is why they don't simply anoint Romney now and let the 2012 race begin. We'd all be better served by letting the GOP Chosen One start squaring off against Obama. But that would screw up the 2012 news cycle, and disrupt the Primary Economy.

That is the reason the GOP Clown Car hasn't already crashed and burned.

1. Yep... elections are a billion dolar industry.
And the more controversial, the better.
It's all about attracting eyeballs to advertisements.
