Even some so-called "progressives" don't get it.
Just heard on a program on the only AM progressive radio talk show station in NYC (not WBAI): The host interviewed a member of "Occupy Washington", a splinter group of OWS that is walking from NYC to DC, 20 miles a day and at the end of the interview, the host said "Enjoy yourself".

Enjoy yourself? The guest was very serious about his and the group's mission.

This is something I'd expect from Chris Matthews.

1. I heard Thom Hartmann with one of the DC trekkers and he was
great and respectful and like myself, impressed with their resolve.

5. It's the kind of thing I'd expect from O'Reilly
"These slacker kids are just effing around."

8. Because to accept the idea that this activity is joyful is to deny the whole point,
which is that the 99% of people in the US today are finding life more and more difficult even as actors in the free market are doing better than ever - which should be (and is) outrageous, not joyful.

11. One can be outraged about something, but I would hope that the work to correct that outrage would be
joyful. I take great pleasure in doing that kind of work, myself. While I find the Emma Goldman quote ("If I can't dance, I don't want your revolution!") to be overused and often an excuse to do more dancing than revolutionizing, I don't see any point in having a revolution that isn't in some way a source of pleasure.

9. yeah - they seem to think that this is some
sort of party. I am sure the occupiers would rather be home where it's warm and they can curl up on their couches rather than getting blisters on their feet from walking in the cold.

10. I guess it depends on the tone and context
It could very well have been "Enjoy youself (with the knowledge that this movement is making a difference)" or something

And the host by reflex has given so many generic sign-off phrases after interviews that he probably didn't think about it

13. Lots of people CALL themselves progressive
but few actually are. If you support the OWS movement, you're probably a progressive even if yoiu don't know it or don't want to admit it. If you don't support the OWS movement or are still whining "B-b-b-but what do they WAAANNTTTT???," you're certainly NOT a progressive.

15. I am so proud of Occupy Wall Street
Only thing is, the folks at Occupy Dallas seem to be acting like they don't have a friggin' clue. Even though the town is somewhat more Democratic than the surrounding countryside, a lot of people are going to see the missteps at OD and say "So this is what that whole Wall Street mess is about! Good riddance."

I'm just surprised that more Democrats aren't making a serious effort to interface with OWS. If there's an anti-Tea Party out there, this is it.
