Chase to end trials of 3 new bank fees
http://money.cnn.com/2011/11/15/pf/chase_bank_fees/index.htm?iid=HP_LN

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- In addition to ending the trial of its controversial debit card usage fee this week, Chase will put an end to two other bank account fees that it has been testing in various parts of the country over the past 10 months.

Among the fees being pulled, is a $10 monthly checking account fee Chase (JPM, Fortune 500) has been testing in Oklahoma since February, according to a person familiar with the bank's plans. The fee, which cannot be waived through direct deposits or online banking requirements, was charged to new customers who set up basic checking accounts.

The bank is also dropping a $15 monthly checking account fee it was testing in Atlanta that can only be waived if a customer maintains a minimum daily balance of at least $1,500.

The third, and most controversial, test is the $3 debit card usage fee that Chase applied to customers in northern Wisconsin to help the bank decide whether to roll it out

1. Trials?
Tell that to the people who PAID them. My bank has a $200 minimum for adults and a $100 minimum for minors. That's at least reasonable and they don't charge much if you dip under. $15 or $1,500 minimum? That's robbery. $10 regardless of the balance? More robbery. $3 debit card fee? Bend over. I'll drive.

The victims in Atlanta and Wisconsin probably didn't see that as a "trial" - that's just a polite word for "extortion".

2. Chase Has Been Charging Me $12 A Month For Several Months..........
............for the PRIVILEGE of being able to have access to my own money. I don't see that charge listed above.

4. Have you thought of closing your account with them and taking it to a Credit Union?

5. I've Definitely Considered It
My only problem is that my my situation makes it imperative that I have access to ATMs 24 hours a day and all over the place, so I kinda need a national bank. I would switch banks in a heartbeat, though, if I could find one that didn't charge any fees. I've done it before (I switched from National City to Chase because of their outrageous fees).

7. I kept my WAMU account for the same reason - which now resides at Chase
I have a direct deposit of $1000 going in twice a month and haven't had any fees.

But I also have a savings account at a local credit union and plan to keep it - the checking at Chase is just for convenience - anything I manage to accumulate into savings will stay at the credit union.

3. Maybe it's less of a 'loss' to them than losing the checking accounts has been
I'm sure they'll reinstate the 'fees' as soon as they feel confident again.

8. The fee..was charged to NEW customers.....
not the old account customers?
There has gotta be a law against that.

More interesting, this shows that banks ARE feeling the backlash!
