I have a confession to make |

My main purpose for coming to DU is to try and get Democrats elected.
Flame away.

That probably means you want someone who thinks like you do.

9. Not unless there's a viable progressive running. |
|
Blue Dogs who vote with the Democratic Caucus are far better than any Republican. In some districts, it's impossible to elect a progressive candidate. In those districts, a Democrat who votes with the caucus is a far better choice. Realistic expectations need to be applied as necessary.

14. I get you there. DINOs/Blue Dogs don't always make themselves known, however. |
|
and have proven that there's no guarantee that they'll vote with their caucus at all times. If there are no progressives or it's not possible to elect one, then of course I'd go dem anyway. Simply put, I'll fight like hell to get progs in there ... :hi:

23. When a blue dog is running for reelection, it's easy enough to |
|
see how he or she has voted in the past. In most cases, it turns out that the votes are with the Democratic caucus. In some notable cases, however, the voting record shows that some blue dogs are actually Republicans. In those cases, there's little gained by voting for them. That's what primaries are for.

31. Yeah, that's a real issue. However, most candidates for |
|
the House and Senate have history that can be checked. Normally, neither are opportunities for unknown candidates to run. It's a little different in state legislatures and local offices. But a candidate for Congress is going to have some history.

and it's always for Dems. I just wish the Dems I voted for weren't so easily chewed up by the corrupt system which is ruled by the 1%. The Greed of Corporations and the Wealthy has ruined what was a nice place to live.

16. Any Democrat? All Democrats? No matter what they stand for or do? |

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever, in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else, where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such an addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." Thomas Jefferson to Francis Hopkinson, 1789.
"Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man." Thomas Jefferson to William Branch Giles, 1795.
“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." John Quincy Adams

In many instances, the party supports whoever is most likely to get elected....because that's the goal of a party, to get members elected. Sometimes these people do not have the same values and beliefs, but because they are good looking, known in the community, or have a lot of money, they get support from the party.
Here is a question...what if somebody like Elizabeth Warren decided to run as an independent? The Democratic Party leadership seems to be standing behind Obama no matter what. Would you vote for Obama just because he is a Democrat, even though an independent has the values you agree with?
