Waitress Says She Was Fired From Outback For Tea Party Bracelet
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 11:45 AM by RamboLiberal
A Crystal Lake waitress says she lost her job because she wore a Tea Party bracelet to work.

As WBBM Newsradio’s Bob Conway reports, Megan Geller, 23, tells the Northwest Herald she wears the bracelet with the words “Don’t Tread on Me,” the phrase that appears beneath the iconic snake on the yellow Gadsden flag, and which is often seen and heard at Tea Party rallies.

Geller tells the newspaper a couple she was serving at the local Outback Steakhouse took offense and complained.

-----

Company officials tell a different story. They say Geller was inattentive to diners at two tables and say that if the bracelet had been a problem, managers would have told her to remove it, the newspaper reported.

1. Yes! Spread this to all your right-wing friends and urge them to boycott Outback Steakhouse!
Just don't tell them that Outback Steakhouse is a far-right organization, and one of Rick Santorum's largest campaign donors for the past decade.

45. That's what I was thinking -- that Outback is rightwing.
That makes me wonder about the accuracy of the waitress' account.

And I note that "don't tread on me" and the accompanying snake emblem is a historical American symbol, not owned by the teabaggers, although widely appropriated and used by them.

47. IF the restaurant has a policy against that kinda thing......
....I doubt that your average manager would care or take into consideration what the political leaning was of the company.....they would tell them to remove the offending clothing/jewelry or face termination. I bet most people who work at Outback have no clue or care that the home office leans right.

43. If Outback Steakhouse has specific rules about what their uniform entails ...
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 02:33 PM by zbdent
then she could have been fired for wearing her "TP" bracelet ... but the spin is disingenuous ... like the "Veteran(s) who can't fly their flag" that keep popping up ... (the area has no problem with them flying the flag, it's just that the flagPOLE violates the rules of the housing area, THAT THEY ACCEPTED WHEN THEY MOVED IN! ... but Faux can't pass up people just reading the headlines and missing the real story ...)

I have it on really good authority that, if a person at a national chain of sandwich shops refuses to take off jewelry or continues to wear non-approved clothing, they will be terminated ...

Miss Big Gummitt-hating teabagger has the stones (and lack of self-awareness) to draw unemployment:

http://www.nwherald.com/2011/11/14/woman-says-she-was-fired-over-tea-party-bracelet/aga530m/?page=2

"The evidence shows the claimant was discharged from because they received a couple complaints from customers since she was wearing a bracelet with a political point of view," according to documents from the state agency. "Since the claimant's action, which resulted in her discharge was not deliberate or willful, the claimant is not ineligible for benefits."

Outback did not challenge Geller's unemployment claim, or submit any information regarding her claim, Kadow said.

11. Apparently this is a case of her just sucking as a waitress and
then complaining about getting fired.

"Company officials tell a different story. They say Geller was inattentive to diners at two tables and say that if the bracelet had been a problem, managers would have told her to remove it, the newspaper reported."

She probably treated all her customers like they were progressives, Muslims, blacks and/or Mexicans.

19. No idea about Outback, by at my office...
No idea about Outback, by at my office we are not allowed to wear any clothing that advertises (whether directly or through implication) a particular political party, ideology, philosophy, or religion.

Of course it's stated in the policy manual as "no written advertising or branding of any kind that may be seen on any clothing", but as I was involved in writing the policy, I know that it stemmed from a combination of the office Church Lady and the office Heavy Metal Meat-head both wearing clothing that had phrases and graphics that were less than kind, and we were forced to deny political clothes also to maintain consistency.

33. Akira Kurosawa could base a remake of Rashomon on this incident
He could contrast the events as seen by the waitress with the same incident as perceived by the manager. It would be an intense study of perception and reality from different points of view. In the case of Tea Party reality, the film would also enjoy strong comedic elements. Unfortunately, Kurosawa left us several years ago.
