Some interesting numbers from Recall Walker, Day One
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/11/16/1036907/-Scott-Walker-recall,-Day-1,-by-the-numbers?detail=hide

..snip..

The first day of the recall of Scott Walker is now in the books. Here are some key numbers on what happened:
400,000: The number of technical college students in Wisconsin who Republicans yesterday decided should have more stringent ID requirements in order to vote.

10,000+: The number of recall Walker petition forms the Democratic Party of Wisconsin said were downloaded online.

4: The number of Republican state senators who had recall campaigns filed against them yesterday.

1: The number of state senate seats Democrats need to win in order to take control of the chamber.

Infinite: The amount of money Scott Walker is legally allowed to raise from individual donors, such as the billionaire Koch brothers, during the recall petition drive.

..end..

1. The war on college students' voting rights is pretty short-sighted, I think.
Yeah, it may help your short term prospects to insulate you from political reality, but the long term effects will most certainly create more committed voters in the opposition.

2. Yep, they are not going to forget which party it was
that wouldn't allow them to vote.

7. Good question.
No idea...but of all young voters, this group, as a whole, ought to be able to organize and hopefully come up with a creative work-around. Republicans legislators aren't necessarily the brightest thinkers in society and these legislative actions could, in fact, boomerang badly for them. regardless, they are helping to create a lot of anti-Republicans.

3. Can anyone tell me how to find a *verifiable* petition to sign?
I live in a pretty conservative part of WI (southeast) and I'm concerned about all the right-wingers who will be collecting signatures to later be burned/shredded/etc.

5. I wonder if it's kosher to ask the person offering you the petition to
show you some form of ID while saying something like "I've heard some Republicans might be collecting and destroying petitions, so I'll be checking to see that my name is on the final tally and I'd like to be able to say who collected it, if it isn't."

Maybe you could go into your local Dem headquarters and sign a petition there? That should be a pretty safe bet.
