at my age, "getting lucky" means finding my car in the parking lot.
my youngest son gave me that two christmas' ago. i unwrapped the present, with this. read it. smiled. chuckled. then read it out loud. EVERYONE was at our house opening presents. he was the youngest. the little older ones that got it, tucked heads and smiled, red cheeks. and the rest of us,.... laughed. my youngest was clueless. he thought he got me the BEST present.

i am looking for my atm card and cant find it anywhere. found this bumpersticker instead and reminded me of the story.

2. When I was 50, which was NOT recently, after a spate of
one (then) minor ailment after another, I said to the doctor, "What's going on, Doc, I never used to have anything wrong."

He had my chart, so didn't need to ask, but put the fish eye on me and asked, "How OLD are you?" I said, "Fifty."

And he said, obnoxiously/sarcastically, "Well, that's what fifty IS LIKE!1"

When I told that at the VFW somebody said, "Wait till you're sixty!1"

Well, after a couple more of this a-hole doctor's further failings, I quietly got a full copy of my records and never went back to him, without any dramatic confrontation.

Later, I recounted this to an aunt in her late 80s, and she said, "Sweetie, he was rude, but he was TELLING YOU THE TRUTH!1"

9. It's true!
Stuff just wears out. From the cartilage between your bones to the fundamental ability of all your systems to resume homeostasis... maybe someday we'll find a way to stop it, but we'd better find another world to colonize before then. Or some way to refashion atoms into valuable resources, or less harmful ones at least.

17. I talked to my mom a few months ago...
and told her a very detailed story about my weekend.

Two days later, she called me and asked me about my weekend. I said "Mom, I told you about that two days ago. What the hell is wrong with you? I'm a little worried!" She responded, "I'm 56! What do you expect? You're also not my only child you know!"
I was silent.

19. Yeah, my mom's the best...
and trust me when I tell you that I'm the least of my mom's worries. I'm the oldest, the one with no kids, and the one with three degrees. I also live the furthest. She only worries when I call with cycling and/or crossfit accidents. I actually think the story I told her was from the day I tore the skin off the front of my shins crossfitting.
I get to see her next week, which is just super! And yes, I have a tendency towards self-absorption with my family simply because I *don't* have kids, and I do live far away. :)

i am sure she is very proud. the thing, confident and secure enough she can say something like that to you, knowing it is just fine.

i was the easy one in my family. hands down. by far.

it is a special place to be

11. Went to lunch with an old friend today,
haven't seen her in awhile. Put in my favorite beaten silver hoop earrings, in the middle of lunch realized one was missing. Looked around for it, but didn't say anything. Took her home, went back to the restaurant, had everyone looking for it. Gave up, came home, and there it was on my dresser. Something shiny must have caught my attention while putting them on. Yeah getting old sucks!!

15. I just hate it when I go all the way upstairs to get something, only to forget what it was...
by the time I get there.

Since my knees creak with every single step up, it seems like such a waste to just go back down. So, I try to do something productive like clean the bathroom mirror, scour the sink...you know; anything to have made my trip worthwhile.

I trudge down the 14 steps when I'm done, feeling pretty satisfied. And then...I remember.

21. My anti-aging secret revealed....
Doesn't matter how you look, how you ache, that your ass hangs to your knees, or that you can remember 3rd grade but forget what you did 2 hours ago...

If you just go around acting immature, pretending you're eleven years old, nothing else matters. I'll be 57 next month, and I figure I can keep up this behavior for a few more years--at least until it starts to be mistaken for dementia!:toast: :bounce: :hi: :fistbump: :headbang: :yourock: :woohoo:

23. what a cruel gift
i'm glad you were able to smile, me, i'm done w. passive aggressive cruelty of that nature

the kid is a little shit and he put one over on you, why reward him now w. the gift of drama?

i prefer to reward the people in my family who are kind to me, not the ones who are hateful, and especially not the ones who indulge in passive aggressive bullshit

and i am not that old, lol. it is a joke. i do forget things. so that is probably why he thought it funny.

he is like me. there is nothing passive in his aggressiveness. and he knows i am not bothered by my age. i am good with me.

You gotta laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh.

This is the funniest piece I know of ... self-deprecating humor.
