With Zuccotti Park Cleared, Occupy Los Angeles Is Estimated to Be the Largest Camp Left Standing

http://laist.com/2011/11/16/with_zucotti_park_cleared_occupy_lo.php

Unlike other cities around the country that have cracked down on camps, officials here have no plans to shut down the encampment in the immediate future. Right now there are 408 tents set up on the lawn outside City Hall, according to the Daily News (although the LAPD says not all of them are, uh, occupied).

That doesn't mean the city wants them here forever. The LAPD says it is trying to work with protestors on a timeline to shut down the camp. Protestors, however, are saying that LAPD has not broached that subject with them. "It's not something that we discuss," Mario Brito, an organizer who regularly meets with LAPD, told the Daily News.

A few weeks ago, the city tried to get protestors to move to the cornfields in Chinatown, but Occupy Los Angeles is holding its ground. Its organizers are reluctant to move somewhere out of the public eye. Some protestors said they would refuse to move from the City Hall lawn. Others said they would be open to a move if it could help their cause. "Not everyone is closed to the idea of moving," said Beth Kempf, social media coordinator for Occupy L.A.

That's the entire article.

And you know what that means.

The KOPS are coming...remember your history of the LAPD and Sheriffs...Rodney King, etc.

GET LAWYERS ON THIS...get injunctions, get busy in the courts, get it moving NOW before the cops come...prevention is better than repair! If the cops DO come, know to operate in shifts so that everyone does not get tired at once; the cops just wait and move in when the crowd is at its thinnest/most vulnerable. You know what the damn LAPD and Sheriffs are like! You know that Villainagrosa took money intended for the homeless and then shoved the homeless away! It will happen, do not doubt it! Prepare! Be strong! Call out enough people that they can't arrest everyone!

I call on every council member, every civic leader, every police officer and sheriff who has the slightest qualm about violence against a completely righteous peaceful protest...to do everything in their power NOW to stop what is coming!

4. This is a call to action! Please act now, please do what you can!
The "warmer" areas of the country will carry much of the protest through the winter months, and must be protected! Please think of something, anything you can do to help and to it!

7. Mayor Villaraigosa: Occupy L.A. 'cannot continue indefinitely'
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/10/occupy-la-mayor-antonio-villaraigosa.html

October 26, 2011 | 3:39 pm

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Wednesday that the Occupy Los Angeles encampment outside City Hall "cannot continue indefinitely" and has asked city officials to draft restrictions limiting when people are allowed on city property.

"I respect the protesters' right to peacefully assemble and express their views," Villaraigosa said. "City officials have been in a continuous and open dialogue with the organizers of Occupy L.A. However, the protesters must respect city laws and regulations, and while they have been allowed to camp on City Hall lawns, that cannot continue indefinitely."

------------

They are saying that they hope the camp can move elsewhere, but I trust that like I trust Bloomberg's "we only want to clean the park" trick. Sounds reasonable, ISN'T. Not with Feds co-ordinating so many simultaneous attacks, with NYPD ignoring court orders...

Have you seen the film "The Soloist"? The story in there about the mayor getting money to help the homeless, but then forcing the homeless out of a section of town they wanted to IIRC turn into expensive lofts, is true...and I don't remember where the money went but it didn't go to the homeless...who are in hell, down on 5th street and thereabouts. Many or perhaps all of the homeless seen in that film are actual folks, not actors. The Single-Room-Occupancy housing they have there is a nice idea, but it's right in the middle of the homeless area. I'm told that you walk out your door and you see crack being smoked.

But back on message...Villainagosa cannot be trusted, has not done the right thing in the past, and we all know about the local law agencies. We must head this off before it can happen.
