LA Sheriff Reopens Natalie Wood Case
LA Sheriff Reopens Natalie Wood Case

After reviewing the death of famed actress Natalie Wood Wagner in 1981, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department ruled it accidental.

Now authorities are reopening the case, according to an announcement from the department issued late Thursday afternoon.

"Recently Sheriff's Homicide Investigators were contacted by persons who stated they had additional information about the Natalie Wood Wagner drowning," according to the LASD.

"Due to the additional information, Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau has decided to take another look at the case," wrote the department.

1. something was off about that drowning
it never made sense why a gal who was from all accounts terrified of water would voluntarily get into a tiny dingy at night

3. I never heard she was terrified of water
Why would she have gotten on a boat to begin with if she was terrified of water? I know I sank on a boat in the Hudson and won't go on any sized boat.

7. Assuming that is true...
Why get on the boat to begin with? I ask this as someone that is simply uncomfortable with water... and I won't go in a boat. If I was terrified of water, I'd not go near deep water.

Ironically, Wood had a paralyzing fear of water but, while filming "Splendor in the Grass," learned to overcome that fear. The boat she was on the night she died was called "The Splendor," to honor her conquering her fear. On the night of November 29, 1981, Wood went overboard and drowned.

2. I thought her BA was a factor in the ruling....
I don't recall there was ever any controversy about this ruling...but that must mean her husband Robert Wagner or Christopher Walken, who was on the boat, must be a suspect. Hmmmm.

9. Good
It was a weird story. Something didn't seem right. She supposedly left the cabin of the boat to retrieve a bracelet or some jewelry on deck, but at night. I would think after having a fear of water, and being at night, and out in the ocean, I wouldn't think she would do that. To me, the ocean looks scary at night, and if I were on a small boat, I would at least let someone know I was going out. But I suppose it could have happened if she were maybe drunk, or drugged by her own doing, or just slipped and fell. I doubt we will really know. It's been 30 years.
