4. In answer to your question: No. |
|
I don't know who that "President Barack Obama" that the quote is attributed to is, but someday our president might want to make that person's acquaintance, talking about universal rights and such. Like the universal right to a trial, and the right not to be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment, and the right to due process before being deprived of property, liberty or life.

11. Well, to be fair, these aren't the only words he's uttered only to make an about-face later. |
|
“And understand this: If American workers are being denied their right to organize and collectively bargain when I’m in the White House, I’ll put on a put on a comfortable pair of shoes myself. I’ll walk on that picket line with you as president of the United States.”
"It is true that I would roll back the Bush tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans back to the level they were under Bill Clinton, when I don't remember rich people feeling oppressed." (April 2008 - said on Faux Noise Sunday, no less...)
I don't know if he meant those things when he said them or if he was feeding us a bunch of BS. All I know is that right now, with economic hell having broken loose on the middle class, with more children living in poverty than ever before, with more families on food stamps than ever more, our President was content to allow austerity to be his focus.
At best, you can describe his leadership on middle-class and poor families as apathetic. At worst, harmful. Sort of the same way I view casting a ballot for him in the upcoming election. I hope he won't get the urge to "negotiate" (cave) if he gains another term. At the same time, I'm very afraid of the real harm that can be done if he decides to flex his post-partisan muscles.
Thank the Lord for OWS.

That he's been out of the country during these recent crackdowns.
I'll be interested to hear what he says when he gets back.
Meanwhile, characterizing his inability to get what he stated he wanted and never stated otherwise as an 'about face' is very dishonest.

12. To be fair, in Egypt there were hundreds killed and thousands injured |
|
That's no excuse for the criminal assaults by the cops. Every last one of those police should be arrested. But there is, so far, no intentional killing on the scale of Egypt. It's sort of like comparing our indentured servitude to slavery. It's a MUCH lesser form of the same thing.
Also, what the cops are doing is clearly in violation of existing laws. They just happen to be very good at avoiding arrest.

before going out on work detail. If we talk about it before then we might be able to change things before it gets to that point, and the fascists wouldn't like that.

(Sure glad this is "just a little" fascism.)

entertain the possibility that OWS is a major threat to the status quo and Obama is a status quo guy, then you'll put your mind at ease before you know it. Otherwise, someone will come up with something you can read that kinda makes sense if you believe hard enough. And the struggle will go on.

32. Never dismiss possibilities. Just assign probability until they are determined. |
|
It is very likely that Obama is on our side, but up against forces he knows he can't fight head-on.
All of his actions demonstrate this is most likely the case. Otherwise he would not have already done so of the good he could get away with.

33. Which facts "cast a great deal of doubt on the status quo guy theory" - |
|
from where I'm sitting he's seems pretty status quo. It's nice to have an attractive, articulate president who doesn't embarrass on a daily basis. At least that's what I was thinking when he was elected. But the on-going wars and his willingness to ignore the 99% speaks for itself.

Normally, I don't mind curing ignorance, but when it's this deliberate I know that I'd be wasting my time.
'Status quo' = 'no changes'. Unless you're truly deliberately ignorant, you know damn well how many things he's changed for the better.
I have a rule I try to follow;
Love love, Hate hate, Fear fear, Ignore the ignorant.
Bye.

40. Not at all. It would be excellent if there were a thousand of these waiting for him |
|
when he gets back.
Problem is this; If he comes down on the side of the protestors, then Faux Noise and Limbaugh get bloody raw meat to throw to the idiot wingnuts, they'll be in the streets with guns in no time. If he comes down against it, then the board Obama haters get to scream "We told you so!" bloody murder about how he's 'sold us out'. If he gets 'political' about it and gives neither condemnation or support, he'll be lambasted for giving 'just another pretty speech'. If he says nothing, then he's "abandoned" the people.
He just can't fucking win.
