Celebrity Gossip- ugh
I'm sitting on a bus on the way to work doing research on OWS and other current events and four youth about my age that don't seem overly idiotic get on, sit down, and talk celebrity gossip. They could be talking about the revolution paving the way for them to truly live in a free society. They could be discussing anything of any importance- but no. Gah- it really grinds my gears.

1. Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy the escape of a little frivolity now and again.
You might try it sometime.

2. A little frivolity would be hanging out with friends

A movie, a good show, dinner, etc

Celebrity gossip? Sorry, it usually doesn't go beyond "who was the hot lady in that movie?"

anything else? bring me the puke bag.

3. Maybe they all have differing political views but are forced to work together on a
school project. That circumstance would make "celebrity gossip" a good topic.

The reason I say this is because I have a nephew who has been assigned to just such a group for one of his university classes. He has nothing in common politically with some of the group members, but they have to work together on a series of group presentations and present a united front, or their grades will suffer.

You never can really know why people do what they do. Sometimes a slice of life is a window, sometimes it's an incomplete picture.
