Apparently OWS IS effective. In fact MORE effective than a few here have given it credit.

So now that the pepper spray and battons are not working... we move to phase two in trying to control what is seen as a rising insurgency.

We will see a simultaneous bad mouthing of the movement (COMMIES I tell you COMMIES, together with OTHER old stand byes. HIPPIES, DRUG ADDLED, fighting the cops) and attempts by the Democratic party elite to make this the tea party of the left. This is all but surprising.

I predict that the bad mouthing will have SOME effect, with the more conservative among us, or easily scared. The latter... Dems this is not the tea party. In fact, the closest you would get to this, and there are major differences, are the lodges in France oh around 1740... this thing about direct democracy and every man and woman is equal is about to give you fits. And at least the Lodges had an established hierarchy... these General Assemblies do not. Good luck guys and gals...

So the red baiting, and beatings will continue...

5. I got in a very heated discussion

with a friend today about OWS. All she had to say was they aren't coordinating, they aren't getting their message out, they aren't reaching out to enough people, they aren't getting the press on their side...yada yada yada.

I pointed out that while most of us were bitching and whining these people have actually done something. Some of them have been at this for two months. They have been threatened, beaten, pepper sprayed, had their personal possessions stolen and destroyed and on and on. I'm proud of them and damn, the Vietnam war protests didn't have results in 2 months and weren't nearly as coordinated as these "kids" are.

I'm sick of the badmouthing of the only real action we have seen in years to protest this corporate shit. I may be an old shit but I'm not so old that I can't at least support this movement any way I can. The least we can do is not badmouth those who have had the courage to actually fucking do something.

This isn't necessarily directed at anyone here, I'm just pissed off for the movement.

8. Just an observation, most of the people

speaking those talking points, have not been to an occupation, or at least steamed the U-stream...

And I am in awe of them, they are fearless. And I am honored to know a few of them PERSONALLY.

The older ones are courageous... and every time I go down there, I am ready to get arrested as well... even if I am doing citizen journalism and actually now writing for a small indy in town.

9. She knows the damn media lies

yet she was buying into all the bullshit she's been hearing from the. Like how they gave the stuff back that they took at Zuccoti Park. I just sent her a link of the photos that show the laptops that were confiscated had been smashed with bats.

Why blame OWS for the fact the media isn't giving them the press they should? I don't get it.

10. It is difficult to escape it

even when people claim it is not something they watch. You truly have to know what precise propaganda techniques are used.

11. I listen to radio advertising almost every day

and I can tell you my prediction: they are going to try the "can't beat 'em so try to fool them into thinking we're just like them" technique.

FOX Radio, for example, is trying the softer, gentler approach this week, after last week broadcasting "Progressives must die!" in their promos.

Now, they actually had a promo where someone said "I'm a Democrat." I laughed my ass off - they really are desperate.

But soon, look for the marketers to figure out some way to make money off this. You'll see the morning show talking heads pimping stylish anti-police-brutality wear, and the 1% media will try to put on a more human, "we're poor and struggling too!" face.

They are still in the demonization phase. When it finally dawns on the media that they are virtually irrelevant to Americans, they'll be clamoring to be part of OWS as well....and they will continue to be lying through their teeth.

supporters just say what they think. That's why the media claims they don't have a message (when in fact their main themes are very clear).

The RW has very obvious "talking points" because large numbers of them parrot memes they are spoonfed by the media.
