At a rally for the Free Speech Movement in December of 1964, a student named Mario Savio spoke from the steps of Sproul Hall on the campus of the University Of California Berkeley. Does it feel like he was talking about what we’ve seen for the last 2 months?

Transcript of this part of the speech: “There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can’t take part. You can’t even passively take part. And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.”

1. Not to me. It was equally applicable to Civil Rights & Vietnam War movements,

OWS is the current anti-Establishment movement and comes at a crucial time, so the rallying cry is apt. Other than that, not much. It's perhaps more applicable to anti-Globalization which despite shared values IS NOT OWS.
