A face full of pepper spray vaults Occupy Portland protestor to Internet fame, albeit painfully

Nichols said a policewoman jabbed her in the ribs with a baton and pressed it against her throat. That made her angry.

She yelled at the officer, saying she was being mistreated. That's when another officer shot her with pepper spray. A photo by The Oregonian's Randy L. Rasmussen, which flashed across social media websites, shows Nichols was sprayed from a few feet away.

"It felt like my face, ears and hands were on fire," she said.

An officer later doused her burning face with water and she was booked into Multnomah County jail, where officers showed her Rasmussen's photo.

Next time you get pepper sprayed, keep your mouth shut, she said they told her.

1. so we can do this in comfort
those cops do not realize what they are doing... they rarely do. The ones that do, will start defecting and things like that. Signs of that are hard to see since it happens mostly in secret.

2. that photo is emblematic of police militarization
One very young woman whose only weapon is her voice.

She yells when police jab her in the ribs with baton.

Another officer (count them, all protected with full body armor!) sprays woman directly in the face.

She was no threat. She was being physically assaulted. She hollered. Police (who were in no danger of being overrun or harmed in any way) assaulted her.

3. Well, it all worked out in the end because she got fame.
What an ignorant headline and story. Everyone is acting as if it was all one big funny incident. She got famous in the end so it's no big deal.

That picture shows what happens in the US when you are not funded by the Koch brothers and dare use your freedom of speech rights to protest peacefully.

What do you think would have happened if one of those fat, pasty teabaggers had been pepper sprayed like that?
