More obese children means more adult-type health problems

By the time doctors examined Cali Ann Denham last spring, she had all the heart disease risk factors of an unhealthy middle-aged woman.

What made that all the more alarming: Cali was 4.

“She had the cholesterol and high blood pressure and triglycerides equivalent to that of a 40-year-old woman with heart issues,” said her mother, Theresa Denham of Lee’s Summit. “It’s not something you would associate with a 4-year-old.”

But at that time, Cali was obese, weighing in at 85 pounds.

Her Mom was constantly giving her junk food to take into school for her snack and as a lunch. She also drowned everything in ketchup. While the schools can stop junk food from being served, what can they do about the kids who BRING their lunches/snacks to school? The teacher did talk to the girl's Mom, but she said her daughter wouldn't eat all that "healthy" food and kept bringing it into school. The mother herself was not fat at all.
