Let's call things what they really are, the UC Davis pepper spray was an attempt to provoke a riot.
And it backfired spectacularly on the authorities.

That's one of the most powerful videos I've ever seen in my life, every time I watch it I end up shaking so hard I can barely type.

TPTB tried their best to provoke a riot and had their overstuffed behinds handed to them when the Occupy protesters didn't react they way they had planned.

3. It's scaring them that they can't shut it down with more military force
than they want to bear. They WANT this to get violent, and are doing what they can to try to force it to become violent. I'm glad OWS is staying strong on a non-violent ethic. I'm proud of these guys :D

4. Yes, and they had quite the sheepish look as they backed out of there, like the cowards they are.
They failed miserably.

And cowardly.

that action by the police. You should be ashamed for implying anyone would.

And we have more than a few OWS haters.

12. You mistake critics for haters. In real life, it's usually useful to know
how everyone who isn't on the same page as you, may feel about the same issues that you are interested in.

14. The students' response was awe inspiring...

slowly surrounding and encroaching the small group of cops with only their cell phones and cameras, chanting in anger. A thousand eyes to record the incident which will never get shown on the MSM. Very brave and very symbolic!

17. They've been spreading the OH NO! RIOTS! meme since day two:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTD8xCJ-zzs&list=FLmbtpDQcIb2UFYtrWBjFCkA&index=65&feature=plpp_video

Of course they've been desperate for a reason to totally demonize #Occupy. Everywhere. Give them a riot and they will send in the army, declare areas of martial law. Peaceful but total protest is our best friend.

Then it's over. Or then it will all be violent.

Phew. It takes massive strength to be nonviolent.

The parents are wondering about it, too.

I can't believe how badly Bloomberg, Giuliani, etc, are handling this.

Truly, they are no longer relevant to anything.

25. The police should get down on their knees
... and thank whoever they thank every day that the protests are not violent. Because if they were, their cute little helmets and nightsticks would not protect them for one hot little second, and they know it, too. Being torn limb from limb is not just a figure of speech.

28. I think you might be right, Fumesucker!
By the individual with the device, yes.

Thankfully they all walked away under the power of numbers and the chants of the protesters,

I just watched it!

http://www.angryblacklady.com/2011/11/18/police-pepper-spray-ows-student-protestors-directly-in-their-faces-at-occupy-davis/

About six minutes into this the occupiers chant "you can go", and they do!

Please watch at least from 7:30 on, it'll make you tingly!

:P

38. that's pretty amazing.
after they dragged the first couple kids off, they didn't seem to know what to do with themselves. they just started sort of slinking off. very smart of those kids to pick up that they wanted to get out of there, and to give them their out.

33. I agree ---- and the beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
I wasn't here all day, as I went down to the Occupy camp here in town.
They are ignoring them for the most part here.
Not very many are camped out downtown.

The local tv station took a camera down this week on Monday and interviewed some of them.
But then at the end, the newsman said, "Why are they here? What do they want?"
And then he left it at that, with the omnious overtones that "something might happen".
