that Wikileaks has played a key role in removing the veil from people's eyes around the world about what their governments have been doing to them at the behest of the 1%.
I think a lot of people knew in their hearts that things weren't right; but in country after country, WL disclosed the indisputable proof: what authorities themselves were telling each other about what they were doing.
(I believe Assange escalated disclosure at the time and in the manner he did because the 1% is progressing rapidly in their efforts to gain effective control over the internet. If he'd waited much longer, it might have been too late.)

5. Assange & Wikileaks were ahead of the curve |
|
The real catalyst, if I had to name one thing, was the fake deficit crisis. Very few people were fooled when SSI and Medicare were put on the chopping block when the bankers still run free.
Assange and others laid the groundwork, putting the info out there when people were ready to look. He also lead to the rise of Anonymous as a global figure in the war of ideas.
We live in interesting times.

...the banksters' rape of American families and of the nation's prosperity is simply more visceral, immediate and widely known.
Not everyone has even heard of Wikileaks, but everyone beyond the one percent has felt the impact of Wall Street's crimes. I don't want to take away anything from Wikileaks, but that an operation by a very few people, operating in secret. OWS is out in the open, and is much more popular.
Assange and company can certainly take some credit for getting the ball rolling.
