Question for progressives.
Someone pointed out on another thread that various progressive causes from the past - women's suffrage, trust busting, the Federal Reserve, an income tax, and labor rights - resulted in a new state of affairs now considered normal.

What two or three things do you think are seen as progressive - or even radical - causes within the US today that are on their way to being considered normal in the future?

4. My hopes and dreams? Election reform, making it illegal for Congressmen to be lobbyists...
for 30 years after they cease to be Congressmen, and complete lobbying transparency (with penalties of minimum 10 years prison for breaking the law).

10. Or maybe even "forever"? Choose: Congress or lobbying, not both, not even sequentially. (NT)

21. I can agree to that
keep those fuckers from Congress for as long as possible, but can you see that happening?

It's like waiting to see pigs fly and we all know that is not going to happen.

8. Reestablishing a strong middle class should be our current first priority ...
In order to accomplish this we will probably have to fight the rich and the big corporations that have gained control of our nation by buying and owning the people we elect to Congress.

Every 40 years or so our nation goes through a period of turmoil. We are currently in the beginning phase of another major change. I hope that it will be a peaceful process but in reality I expect the 1% to fight tooth and nail to preserve their privilege. Unfortunately our main stream media appears to be unwilling to support the 99% movement so we may have to use the power of the internet much as was done during the Arab Spring. We need to dispel the myth that the OWS movement is merely a rabble formed of drug loving, filthy kids and anarchists who have never worked for a living. Fortunately videos are appearing on the net of police using unnecessary force to stop peaceful demonstrations that include Americans of all ages and backgrounds.

I predict we will have an American Spring and Summer and it will change the course of our nation for the better.
