Woohooo - Say goodbye to Omaha Steaks, Mr. Beck.
http://mediamatters.org/blog/201012160028

This morning, Omaha Steaks announced that they were removing their ads from Glenn Beck's program (emphasis added):

Omaha Steaks buys large units of national television advertising during the holiday season. This year, we bought a package of advertising through the Fox Network. We did not specifically request to be included on the Glenn Beck program. As part of our contract, the Omaha Steaks ads run in a variety of time slots throughout the day.

We took your comments regarding the Glenn Beck Program to heart. After further review and careful consideration, we have decided to pull all advertising from Glenn Beck programming effective December 20th, 2010. Unfortunately, due to advertising cancellation policies, we were bound to continue possible ad placements through Sunday, December 19th.

At Omaha, we greatly value the loyalty and support of our customers, fans and followers and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

to entice advertisers.

Give them credit for what they did - not all companies would heed our complaints.

60. Called into Thom Hartmann's radio program about boycotts as SO works for
Edited on Fri Dec-17-10 05:34 PM by axollot
a Koch purchased company - Georgia Pacific to let his progressives listeners know that lots of good people work there, the Koch bros will take it out on the workers. These are union men & women (getting more rare by the day in the US) they are paid a fair living wage - very rare for Florida. S.O has worked there much longer than Koch have owned it too.

Anyway..back to the point - Thom made a very valid point - if advertisers are scared away from political shows, it wont be just shows from the rw.

So while I think Foul news should have a permanent ticker across the bottom with a disclaimer about "the views shared on the show are opinion - blah blah" (as well as the analysts) it gave me pause about boycotts.

Cheers
Sandy

10. They have really tasty steaks and a web site for ordering online.
The first time I had one of their steaks was a few years ago at an important barbeque where the guy wanted to impress everyone.
He did!
Those were some of the best steaks I ever had.
I had to order more of them for myself later on.
LoL
Guess, I'll have to place an order tomorrow to get some more to boost their sales a little for dropping Beck.

That says, we didn't mean to advertise on Beck's show. Like "We do steak, not bologna."

Or even better, showing Beck in conflict with himself.

http://steakbytes.com/2010/12/omaha-steaks-television-advertising-policy/

Correction from the CEO of Omaha Steaks, Bruce Simon
16. DEC, 2010 20 COMMENTS

The staff writers of our blog responded incorrectly and I want to apologize for any confusion this may have caused. The facts are: we did not “pull” our ads from any show. Our holiday TV advertising contract ends on December 19th. Our contract never specified when our ads would air, only that they would air. Mr. Beck’s show is enjoyed by many, and we at Omaha Steaks hope our steaks are too. Our marketing is designed to speak to Americans who love steaks and great food, getting together with family and friends and giving gifts of great taste – no matter what TV shows they watch or what newspapers they read.

Bruce Simon
CEO, Omaha Steaks

None of the usual weasel words there either. Not to mention some poor "staffer" is probably looking for another job today.

Thank you!

 and :hi:

On edit: Omaha Steaks does seem to have waffled a little bit yesterday and their CEO's statement was definitely confusing--it wasn't an outright rejection of Glenn Beck, that's for sure, and I think it was designed to be taken either way--but they do seem to have come to a specific conclusion about how to spin this as of just a few hours ago, as a freeper found to his sorrow:

Dear Friend,

We felt that advertising on the Glenn Beck Program could be mis-interpreted as an endorsement of Mr. Beck's political views. Since Omaha Steaks has no affiliation with Mr. Beck, nor do we ever endorse any political affiliations, views or beliefs, we felt it was in our best interest to discontinue these ads.

Sincerely,

Julie Davis Omaha Steaks Customer Care Representative

But I wouldn't have gone looking for an update if it hadn't been for what you found, so again, and :hi:

their ads would not be run after their contract expires. I ASSUMED that meant that in the next media buy, they would specifically exclude Beck.

31. Omaha Steaks are good quality for the price!
PLUS, it's often hard to buy for older people like moms and dads who don't 'need' any stuff. The Omaha Steaks products always arrive perfectly packed and frozen to store in freezer. Quality is above that of Kroger and other mainstream supermarkets! I 'work' the specials to get good deals all through the year. The sirloin cuts are excellent for stirfies and bouef bourginione.

I need to order for an older lady I know. I'll be sure to thank them for dropping Glenn Beck! YAY!!!!

My partner and I were talking about how mainstream big companies won't want the pad publicity which would follow if one of the Limbaugh or Beck listeners follows through on the anti-gov, anti-President drivel they spout daily and takes a shot at the president or an elected official.

47. It ain't Omaha quality...
...but I've found that if you get a good-sized chuck* roast (especially one which is 'specially marked down') and slice it into about 3/4" slices against the grain you can get some very nice, boneless 'steaks' for a good price.
Wrap them individually and freeze them.

This is nice for a single person living on a budget who enjoys the occasional steak.

I've done this for some of my elderly clients and they were very pleased with the result...:9

*It doesn't have to be chuck, just I think that particular cut has the most flavor...
i.e., bang for yer buck. ;)

Just from the stuff I've heard Buffet say, I'd guess he's not a Glenn Beck fan.
