American Spring: OWS: Lets start walking.........TO DC! |
|
April 1st, everyone, just start walking (ala Forrest Gump) towards Washington.
Then Occupy their asses till the cows come home. For months, more and more people will be pouring in. Some will get there right away and others (Me and other west coasters) will get there later. Coordinate the whole thing. Some go all the way and others do a leg or two. 9Like a "RUN" with pledges?)
There is enough lead time to get permits for using the roadways (Couple that with freeway cleanup along the route?) , camping and to get donations and support vehicles, mobile kitchens (legal ones?) etc.
Can you imagine a group that starts in SF and moves east? And one that starts in Miami and moved North. NYC to DC?

I am all down for that... Like the Trail of Tears in reverse? or the March to s=Selma to the Nth degree?
hehe...I think it would be freaking AWESOME! :bounce:
Let's start promoting the concept, write to your local Occupy, and to the main OWS and see if they run with it?
and I like April 1st as the start date ;)
oh, and if there's major spring floods on the way, we can help the needy etc...? there is such potential for good coming from that idea...
GO baby GO!!!
(on edit, I share this with my kidz and now we are talking about getting a mobile home and joining the crowd... hehe...just yank them out of school and give them CIVIL education ...!!)

6. Why do you need a mobile home to go on a walk? |

i have small kids and a physical condition, besides i could help carry some of the camp supplies...
a long walk like that is really going to end up being more like a caravan....

9. look we don't have to argue semantics. |

I think there may be people who would like to "march" that are physically incapable of it. So there's that also, who says we can't take full advantage of the 'technology' available to us? It could come in handy to have someone along with an extra bathroom, or a place for those to ride when they can't walk...besides, if the OP was suggesting Meal trucks, etc...then why is a mobile home so offensive? chill...

|
i could swim there faster..bad leg which would damper everyones' spirit as i howled in pain..so be kind to those of us who could help but have marched jumped skipped ran danced and whirled around on our legs a lot over several decades..our hearts are in the right place

They're the missing link between corporations and government. I've wondered why the occupy movement hasn't focused more attention to that nest of vipers.

Oh my I think you have gotten down to the nitty-gritty. Encircle K-street with occupiers.
SHUT DOWN K-STREET
I love it and wiggle my fingers in agreement.

some police who are saying they need a permit to even be ON the street...so don't doubt there's a permit somewhere for something we will need to have

12. Freeways are no pedestrians.... |
|
so permitting would have to be done. Conses, vests etc would have to be purchased for all marchers....

13. No reason to use interstates |
|
There's a perfectly good network of state and federal highways. What's more, using those secondary roads enables you to interact with people as you go by.

without a map...
there's plenty of frontage roads by I-80 most of the way...and even next to HWY 50 into ElDorado Hills. Then it gets a little squirrely once you hit Placerville. I think you would either have to go Hwy 50 (and be careful no to block traffic or stay in one lane?) or try Emigrant trail, which is really thru the sticks and spits you out farther over in Hope Valley, on Hwy 88/89... once you get into the more remote places, i bet you would have to use Interstates and such, because of the 2 lane hwys thru the mountains etc...(isn't it the same thru some of nev/utah/colorado?)

15. I think vehicles would be great too.. |
|
Hippie busses RV's etc, all moving at the same pace as the marchers would be so awesome. Hello ELKO! Salt Lake City. (could speed the deal up on the long stretches?)

18. SF to DC at 20 miles per day..... |
|
200 days? Especially taking highways instead of interstates. (I agree there too).
So cut the long stretches out and transport people between Reno and Elko say..... and do the march in population centers only?
