Songs of the Dead Roommate
My roomy at Auburn in 1966-67 was KIA in the 'Nam in '68. He was a red-neck Army ROTC guy who lit a cigarette every morning when his feet hit the floor from the bottom bunk (I was on the top bunk, and I never smoked .. so I hated it). He was a bomb defuse (master blaster, as he called it). His name was Ronnie.

Ronny loved C&W, and I loved classical and jazz. I called Ronnie "Puss" and he called me "Pussy." It was not sexual.

But I got Ronny loving Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E Minor "From the New World." And Brubeck.

Ronnie got me loving the "Pozo Seco Singers." Those tunes swirled in my mind when I saw Ronnie's name on The Wall in Washington, DC.

So I am now listening to a Pozo Seco album (thanks to I-Tunes), thinking about the good damn years before Viet Nam.

2. Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E Minor and Dave Brubeck?
Hey, man, you're just fine in my book.

That is some good shit.

3. Hi Steve!
Snow coming? Looks like a bastard of a storm in the Gulf of Alaska. Keep safe.

7. I rate my days on the number of Cascade volcanoes I can see.
From here in Portland, the best day is a Five Mountain Day. That happened today.

I can see Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Jefferson.

From here, if you get up high enough like Larch Mountain (~4200 ft), you can see the Three Sisters. Which makes it an Eight Mountain Day, exceptional.

:hi:

Sadly, these days are few and we're socked in cloudy weather and rain and drizzle and sleet and snow most of the time.

Good to see ya.

4. How nice. I think music does more to recall memories than anything else.

11. I love music, but I think
fragrance or odor actually outperforms music in the memories department.

10. Thanks for introducing me to the Pozo Seco Singers
After reading this I went to Amazon and listened to samples of their "Complete 1966 Recordings" album. It's on my list. (I'm already a fan of Dvorak's ninth.)
